Obituary of Dorothy Howley

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Howley was born in Sussex on May 2, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth (Phipps) McAuley and was the wife of the late Joseph Michael Howley who passed away in 1992. Dorothy went to a country school in Smith Creek and walked there everyday. Later, she worked at Jardines' in Sussex as a homemaker and boarded on Maple Avenue. In December 1942, Dorothy married Joseph Howley. They lived at Essex street and along came Betty in 1947. They moved to Main Street where she lived in their family home for 62 years. She spent her years quilting, knitting, and doing her Word Finds. She loved her shows: General Hospital, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She also loved to listen to the Sunday Night Jamboree and loved spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy was a member of the Maple Leaf Unit of the St. Paul's UCW and the St. Paul's United Church Congregation. Dorothy Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Betty and husband Garfield Constantine of Sussex; her sisters: Rita Crabtree of Ottawa and Shirley Titus of Springfield; her grandchildren: Charles and wife Dawn of Wards Creek and Jason of Moncton; her great grandchildren: Jenna and Luke; her sister-in-law, Gertrude Howley of Sussex; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by he brothers: Harold, Robert, Lawrence, Donald and Ernie and by her sisters: Peggy Archibald and Mildred Deezil. Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Howley of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on September 3, 2011 at the age of 89. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Sunday 6-9pm. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Monday, September 5, 2011 at 01:00 pm. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
