Obituary of George Goddard

Mr. George Goddard of Sussex Corner passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on August 11, 2011 at the age of 90. He was the son of the late Irvine and Vera (Smith) Goddard and the husband of the late Frances "Irene" (Bradley) Goddard who passed away in 2000. George Stanley Goddard was born in Southbranch on March 4, 1921. He was the son of the late Irvine and Vera (Smith) Goddard and the husband of the late "Irene" Frances (Bradley) Goddard who passed away in 2000. George's father passed away when he was seven years old. His mother and he went to Middleton, NS where they lived for several years. Upon returning to Sussex, George went to work for Harold McElroy pressing hay and later worked on farms owned by Holmans and Teddy McElroy. George and Irene married on September 8, 1945 and went on to have three children, Louis, Sharon and Phyllis. They lived in Hammondvale where George did some trucking as well as farming. Eventually, they moved to Knightville where they bought a dairy farm and stayed for eighteen years. He also looked after his family by cutting pulp and Christmas Trees. After a fire took his machine shed he worked for Sussex Poultry, Goold's Nursery and Glendale Mobile Homes. George was not afraid of work and did what needed to be done in order to provide for his family. George moved his family to Sussex Corner in 1982, where he lived out the rest of his life. He suffered the loss of his son Louis in 1994 and then his beloved Irene in June of 2000 after 54 years of marriage. George attended Anagance Ridge United Church, Faith Bible Baptist and Sussex Wesleyan Church where he was baptized when he was eighty years old. He loved the Lord and lived each day knowing he was looking after him. Family was so important to George. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great, grandchildren. He has missed Irene dearly and how happy he must be to have her welcome him home. George is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Brown (Ronald) and Sharon Clain; 12 Grandchildren: Barb Brown (Jake), Susan Anderson, Donna Price (Ken), Stephen Clain (Andrea), Stewart Clain (Jodi), Bryant Clain (Jenn), Danny Clain (Stephanie), Laura Tobin (Michael), Christa Hourihan (Clinton), David Goddard, Connie Akerly, and Kathy Dempster (Aubrey); 28 Great Grand-children Keith, Christopher (Alyssa), Clarissa, Tiffany, Katie, Michael, Nicole, John, Samantha, Brooke, Madison, Braxton, Katie, Alexia, Julia, Chloe, Ashley, Kayla, Mitchell, Damon, Mya, Jordyn, Olivia, Cameron, Haley, Mateo, Trai and John; 5 Great Great Grandchildren Logan, Emma, Samara, Autumn and Hope; half brother, Billy Clain and half sister Vera (Kit) Beckett; as well as by several nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by his son, Louis who passed away in 1994, his brother Gerald and son in law Bernard Clain.
