Obituary of Elizabeth Jean McLean
Elizabeth Jean McLean was born in Sussex on August 27,1952, to Myrtis (Keirstead) McLean of Apohaqui and the late Angus Munn McLean who passed away in 2001.
Elizabeth started school in September 1958, where she carried a broken hockey stick to beat off her tormentors. In 1963 she began attending Keirstead Memorial School, and later went to Crosswinds when it first opened in 1978. For the next 36 years Liz was a faithful client of Crosswinds, participating in many different programs such as their second hand store the "Hall Closet", cleaning at the Fairway and putting cookbooks together at Barbours. A favorite activity of hers was the rag program where Liz confiscated buttons by the bucket and the day Myrtis tried to sneak them out to the trash with the help of family, who ended up spilling them all over the driveway.
Liz had many adventures including the bus trips to Ontario, the Summers her dad was up working in the tobacco fields, and many camping trips over the years. Liz could also be very mischievous like the time she took her brother, Levi's new bike for a test drive without his knowledge, after hitting a tree, the bike never steered straight again. She also ordered a stereo in her father's name and it being delivered to the door and her crying so hard that her mother let her keep it and made her pay for it out of her own pocket. In the 80's Liz discovered T.V. which she saved her own money to buy, after the TV came into the house Liz could be found on her wooden chair, watching wrestling, armed with her cap gun.
Liz was very active in her church, she enjoyed handing out the bulletins; she could always be found sitting in the front seat and sometimes could even be found snoozing. She loved to crochet, shop, traveling, especially by plane she loved to fly, gospel music, church, dancing and Halloween. Liz had a name for everyone and it could change daily and it was not always a nice name. As we prepared for Liz's final resting outfit, we were looking for earrings to match her outfit in her favorite color red, most of the earrings we found were for pierced ears which Liz never had but she loved her "bling".
Elizabeth will live on in the hearts of her mother, three brothers: Levi and his wife Ann of Sussex, Ken and his wife Roxanne of Norton, Raymond of Apohaqui; as well as by Wendy Lackie of Mount Middleton, who was like a sister to her; several nieces and nephews: Mitchell and Allie McLean-Lackie, Michelle McLean, Cassie Preston and Christopher Preston; great nephew Maddoch Angus McLean-Lackie; Uncle, Lloyd Kierstead and his wife Mae; Aunts: Ada Castleman and her husband Jim, Dorothy Caunter, Annie McLean, Dot McLean and Millie McLean and several cousins.
