Obituary of Norma Cook
Norma Patricia Rita Cook-Beloved Wife, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Sister. Heaven has a new angel.
Norma was born on November 1, 1940 in Verdun, Quebec, the third of five children. Her family returned to their Maritime roots and moved back to Saint John in 1941 where she picked blueberries on the islands around the mill and sold her famous fudge to the local bakery.
Edward and Norma met in London, Ontario in 1958, she a Maritime girl and he a new Canadian from the Netherlands. Norma's beauty captured Ed's heart before he even knew her name; he always says how much she looked like Elizabeth Taylor. They married and moved to Saint John in 1964 where, over the years, love and laughter helped them to build their family and business.
Edward retired early so they enjoyed many years together as best friends travelling the world and enjoying all that they had worked so hard for.
Norma was a beautiful woman who loved a good fiddle tune, ballroom waltzing with her husband, feeding people, birds and animals, the TV show "All in the Family" and a good cup of tea or coffee with company. She always told us all "Never say goodbye-say, 'See you soon'", and so now we say to you-the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister- so long, we will see you soon.
Norma passed away peacefully and with grace, surrounded by her family, on July 14, 2011. She will be forever missed and loved by her husband of 51 years, Edward, her children Tammy, Deanna (Dan) and Michael (Sue), grandchildren James, Jodie, Sarah, Elijah, Samuel and Molly; great grandchildren, Jadyn, Jolie and Ayden as well as her sister Marceline Clark.
Norma is predeceased by her father and mother Michael and Gladys (McGaghey) O'Reilly, brothers Donald and Merlin and sister Deborah. We know they met her with warm embraces.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Norma's life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 1:00pm. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
