Obituary of D. Kathleen Hodgin

HODGIN, D. KATHLEEN "KATE" - Mrs. D. Kathleen "Kate" Hodgin of Newline, passed away on August 13, 2013 at the age of 64.She was the daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie (Cunningham) Meehan and the beloved wife of Clifford Hodgin. Kate will be lovingly remembered by her husband Clifford Hodgin, her daughter Wanda (Dale Lewis) and her son Troy (Gale), both of Newline; her brother Lloyd (Carmen) of Jeffries Corner; her sisters: Carole Patrick of Ontario, Judy Nickerson (Gerry) of St. Albert, AB and Eileen Elder (Donnie) of Riverbank; grandchildren: Caitlyn, Cassidy, Brooklyn and Madison; her step grandson Michael Lewis as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Kate was born on September 18, 1948 and lived in Sussex for the early part of her life. At the age of 17 she married her childhood sweetheart Cliff, and few years later moved to the country beside her parents. This is where she found the most happiness, being surrounded by her two greatest joys, her family and her animals. Family was most important to Kate. A woman of few words, she always lit up when she talked about her children and grandchildren. She never had the opportunity to travel far from where she grew up, and to many this would seem unfortunate, but Kate was unique that she found most of her joy in the simple things in life. She was never happier than when she was at the camp with Cliff and their friends, riding their ATV's on the trails, working outside on her flower beds, or just curled up on the couch with Bailey and Rex beside her. Kate was always a hard worker. She worked at Shear Silk, Glendale Homes, Sussex Poultry, Sussex Hatchery and eventually joined Cliff in their business "Cliff's Driver Training". Almost everyone you talk to in Sussex and surrounding areas learned how to drive from Kate or Cliff, or knew someone who had. She left a lasting impression on many of her students with her patience and quiet, gentle way. Always the caregiver, she was uncomfortable when it was time for that care to be returned to her. Kate never complained even when she had every right to. She never wanted attention focused on her and was more concerned with the well-being of others than her own. This past year, she truly revealed her incredible strength of body and character. Although the hearts of her family and friends are forever broken, we know that our gentle angel will always be watching over and guiding us until we meet again. The family will receive relatives and friends at Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm . A service celebrating Kate's life will be held from the Wallace Community Chapel on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Kate may be made to the charity of your choice. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
