Obituary of Leon Everett Sleep
Leon was born in Canaan Rapids on April 15, 1920. He was the son of the late Corey and Emma (Keirstead) Sleep and the husband of the late Bernice (Wood) Sleep, who passed away in 2006.
Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodwork. Leon was a retired backhoe operator with the DOT. He was a former member of the Coles Island Senior Citizens Club and the Royal Canadian Grand Washademoak Legion #60.
Leon will live on in the hearts of his three daughters: Theresa Miller and her husband Burtis of Highfield, Wanda Grady and her husband Ron of Cape Breton, and Janet Kiervin and her husband Kevin of Coles Island; his three sons: Kevin Sleep and his wife Penny of Nauwigewauk, Gordon Sleep and and his wife Betty Lou of Jemseg, and Darren Sleep and his wife Diane of Coles Island; his brother, Gerald and his wife Winnifred of Hamilton, Ontario; three sisters: Violet Wilson of Saint John, Lena Greenwood Waterborough, Vera Blackwell and her husband Bill of Rothesay, his 13 grandchildren: Michelle, Stephanie, Amanda, Jennifer, Travis and his wife Monika, Trevor and his wife Leslie, Tara and her husband Edwin, Nicholas, Thomas, Corey, Lauren, Jessica and Austin; 10 great grandchildren: Madison, Logan, Mateo, Lana, Noah, Oliver, Wyatt, Ellie, Cameron, Curtis, Colin, Isabella and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Leon Everett Sleep of Coles Island passed away at the Mill Cove Nursing Home on October 21, 2013 at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his brothers, Cecil, Ralph, Alvin, Harold and Angus, his sisters-in-law, Velma and Jean and his brother-in-law, George.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
A service celebrating Leon's life will be held from the Coles Island Baptist Church on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00am. A private family interment will take place at Coles Island Cemetery.
There will be an opportunity to visit with the family at the Coles Island Seniors Centre following the service.
