Obituary of Patricia Louise Graves
Pat was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on July 13, 1946 and was the daughter of the late George and Eva (Nordstrom) Holden.
According to Pat, her life was not easy; those who knew her well knew that but, she always tried to find the funny side of everything that happened. She truly wished to be remembered like that.
She said, "As a child, OH MY! My poor parents. If I was told not to, well I just had to. "Do not go out and ride those horses they are not safe"… Horse kicked me and broke my leg and I was in a cast for almost a year. "Do not go swimming in the slew you will get Polio"… went swimming and guess what, got Polio. "Do not go on the barn roof" … fell off and almost killed myself. The list just went on and on, how my parents ever survived me, I will never know."
Pat's sister kept her alive and Pat knew she was the most fortunate person in the world to have her. Life became more serious at the age of 16 when Pat had to give up her daughter, "Cheryl". Life became serious and a fight to live. According to Pat, Ann McGregor rescued her and it was then that she decided to grow up.
Pat took nurses training and became an R.N.A. She later met the love of her life, "TOMMY". They were married and moved to Germany for four years. Two of their children were born in Germany: Trisha and Tracey. When returning to Canada, they moved to Mill Cove, NS for four years and had another child, Clark. They then moved to Regina, Saskatchewan for one year and would then move to Sussex.
When they moved to Sussex, they bought a small house and built a big house over it and threw the old house piece by piece out the windows. The horror story is the family lived in the house while they did this. They had a house full: Pat's Mom, Tom, Pat, Trish, Tracey, Clark, Bobby the dog, umpteen dozen cats through the years and all the neighbors kids: Brenda and Debbie Seeley, Steven, Candy, Cindy and Scott, DR. "A", Jennifer and Ellen, Sam, Rupert, Rob, Cindy Folkins and the Walsh boys to name some of the favorites.
They also had chickens, a rooster, rabbits, a pigeon, seagull baby birds of all types, hamsters, guinea pigs, and anything that was alive and needed a home always had room with Pat's family.
While Pat was trying to "keep her sanity" living with all these people and things, she managed to work. Through the years she worked at a nursing home in Norton and decided "No she didn't like that". Pat recalled a few of her favourite places to work at were: Canadian Tire, Blue Cross, and Goolds. She also enjoyed her time working at Sussex Security and the Sussex Answering Service.
Pat is survived by her husband Thomas Graves; her children: Trisha Graves-Mersereau of Fredericton, Tracey Cessford and her husband Scott of Campbell River, BC and Clark Graves and Pippa Wennberg of Saint John; three grandchildren: Jessica Mersereau, Joshua Mersereau and Ryan Cessford; her sister, Judy Bennett and her husband Stan of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, her special friends Sharon and Mel Harris; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).
A service celebrating Pat's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2:00pm. There will be an opportunity to meet with the family immediately following the service.
