Obituary of Myles Chown
Myles Chown Jr. was born in Kierstead Mt. on April 25, 1929 and was the son of the late Myles Duncan Chown and Mabel (Parlee).
Myles attended a commercial pilot college in Miami, Florida obtaining his commercial pilots license. After coming home he joined the Toronto Police Force. Upon returning to New Brunswick, he worked along side his father for several years. He would eventually leave to go on his own, teaching carpentry and become a self employed contractor for several years. Myles was a hard worker. He gradually moved on to the cement business and owned two plants in Southern NB. Prior to his retirement, Myles would go on to operate an aggregate business until his eventual retirement.
Myles joined the Masonic Lodge as an entered apprentice of Zion Lodge #21 F&AM in 1956. He received his 50 year pin at Grand Lodge in 2007. He was Grand Stewart from 1977 to 1978. He was also a Charter Member and Past President of Sussex Shrine Club, the Maple Leaf Unit and former First Vice President of Masonic Charities and Housing Corp. In addition he was a member of Luxor Temple in Saint John and a member of the Imperial Band. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Red Cross of Constine, Order of the High Priesthood, Royal and Select Master, Royal Arch and Preceptory. Myles was also a life member and past deacon of Sussex Baptist Church and was very active with Meals on Wheels.
Myles will live on in the hearts of Flo (Kierstead) his beloved wife of over 60 years; his sons: Myles and his wife Sandra of Sussex Corner and Eugene Chown and his wife Judy of Ottawa; his sister, Sheila Warren and her husband John of Keirstead Mt.; five brothers: James Chown and his wife Edna of Sussex, Murton Chown and his wife Mary of Berwick, Morris Chown and his wife Helen of Roachville and Florida, Leonard Chown and his wife Dianne of Ottawa, and Beverley Chown and his wife Rosemary of Jemseg; four grandchildren: Myles B. Chown and his wife Shelley, Brittany Chown and Jon Reicker, Tara and Samantha Chown; two great grandchildren: Myles 5th and Bridget;as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Myles Eugene Chown Jr. of Sunnyside Dr, Sussex passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 8, 2014 at the age of 84. Myles is predeceased by three sisters: Janice, Janet and Jeanette, two brothers: Reginald and Garry and by his infant son Michael Robert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Zion Lodge # 21 F&AM will host a tribute at the funeral home in his honour on Monday evening at 6:30pm.
A service celebrating Myles' life will be held from Sussex Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2:00pm.
The interment will take place at Kierstead Mt. Cemetery in the spring.
