Obituary of Violet Lewis
The family of Violet D. Lewis are saddened to announce her passing on February 10, 2014 at the Sussex Health Center.
Violet was born on September 6, 1919 in Youngs Cove and was the daughter of the late Otty and Florence (Pace) Lewis.
Violet had a very strong faith in the Lord and this took her through many trials throughout her life. She lived through the depression and the war and reading her Bible every night before bed brought her great comfort.
Violet was a soldier with the Salvation Army and was very active with the Church, the Home League Women's Group and the Community Care Group. She had a big heart and loved helping those in need.
Violet loved to receive visitors and anyone who came to her home could not get away without a cup of tea and a cookie. She loved to talk and tell stories. She had a great memory and could recall events that happened many many years ago.
Violet was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and to have known her was a blessing. She will be missed.
Violet will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Joan Hodder of St. John's, Newfoundland and Sharon Braman and her husband George of Midland; her sister Eva Quigley of Kingston, Peninsula; her grandchildren: Wayne, John, Tommy, Patty, Kim, Tammy and Angela; several great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176 where the family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
A Celebration of Violet's life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Salvation Army Community Church followed by a time of fellowship with Violet's family.
Interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery in the spring.
