Obituary of Richard Simpson
Dick Simpson was born in North Hampton England on January 15, 1929; he was the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (Hunneman) Simpson.
The family crossed the Atlantic arriving in Saint John when Dick was just 16 months of age. Dick was a graduate of Saint John High School in 1946. In his earlier years he was actively involved in the YMCA and belonged to the Junior Leaders Corps.
Dick and Shirley were married on July 26th, 1952. In 1954 they moved to Sussex to pursue his dream of owning his own Photography Studio.
Throughout his career he received many photography awards for his work. His life achievements included: President of the Maritime Professional Photographer's Association, President of the Sussex Art Club, President of Sussex Jaycees, President of the Kiwanis Club of Sussex and President of Kings East PC Party. Dick also received his 50 year pin from Zion Lodge #21 F&AM. He was an active member of Trinity Anglican Church, where he was a Warden and a member of the Vestry for many years. Dick was also a member of the Pleasant Lake Fishing Club, where he spent many happy years with family and friends.
Dick had many hobbies: flying, gliding, fishing, RV camping, skiing, gymnastics and outdoor adventures. Painting was a life long passion for Dick, who was a renowned artist with his work displayed in many art shows.
Dick will live on in the hearts of Shirley, his loving wife of over 61 years; his sons: Andy and his wife Debbie of Wards Creek and Doug and his wife Kim of Sussex Corner; his brother, Edward of Montreal; four grandchildren: Amanda, Mary Anne, Jason and Jessica; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Richard "Dick" Evelyn Simpson of Wards Creek passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on February 14, 2014 at the age of 85.
Arrangements are entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16th from 1-3 and 6-8pm. The Zion Lodge #21 F&AM will hold a tribute Sunday evening at 5:45pm.
A service celebrating Dick's life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church, Sussex on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 am.
There will be an opportunity to visit with the family in the Church Hall immediately following the Service.
The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery in the spring.
