Obituary of Sadie Gamble

Sadie Mills Gamble was born on March 14, 1925 in Rockville, New Brunswick, to Melbourne and Mary Ann (McFarland) Buchanan. Sadie attended school in Rockville, where she stayed until moving to Saint John, where she worked as a cleaner; before moving to Hampton and then onto Sussex. Being the dedicated woman she was, she travelled for three years as a volunteer for VON Red Cross, where she drove the blood bank truck. Sadie was married to Lloyd Lockhart for a short time and in 1953, she and married the most wonderful man, George Gamble. In the years to follow, Sadie managed Pizza Delight, R&S Jewelers and Lindor Clothing Co. in Sussex. After the death of her daughter-in-law, Joanne, she took over the care of her grandson Paul and opened her own bakery in her home. She also ran the canteen at Eldon's Auctions, which she did for several years. After raising her own family, Sadie opened her house to foster children and also looked after the Chaisson children. In 1998, Sadie sold her house in Sussex and moved to Trenton Ontario, where she became a member of the community policing. Once she was settled, her beloved dog Mitzie joined her and became her sidekick who even attended church with her. Sadie loved to travel. She especially enjoyed her trip home in a transport truck and her trips to Arizona and Jerusalem. Her family will always remember climbing the bluff together, how she loved to dress up for Halloween, her beautiful rose bushes and her delicious homemade donuts. She was a member of the St. Mark's ACW, served on several Boy Scout committees, the Waterford Women's Orange Lodge #1407, LOBA, as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20. Sadie will continue to live on in the hearts of her daughter, Vicki Elisseou and Lyle Manchester; her sons: Ronald Gamble and Donna Bird, Gary Gamble all of Trenton, ON and George Gamble and Louise Lavoie of Moncton; her brother, Eldon Buchanan and his wife Dot of Rockville; her grandchildren: Edward "EJ" DeBow and his wife Beth, Sonia Squires and her husband Len, Angela Elisseou and her fiancé Kyle Hall, Lisa Johnson and Warren Gingrich, Ron Gamble Jr. and Angie White, Shauna Pronovost and her husband Josh, Paul Gamble, Deanna Gamble, Gale Hodgin and Bob Wilson; her great grandchildren: Miranda, Alicia, Sarah, Brian, James, Cassie, Madison, Brooklyn and Kayden, Hannah, Blake, Austin, Rayne, Gage, Xander: her great great grandchild: Sawyer; her daughter-in-law Kelly Antworth; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sadie Mills Gamble of Trenton formerly of Sussex, passed away in Trenton on April 28, 2014 at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law Joanne in 1969, and her son Kevin who passed away in 1994 and by her brother Milton Buchanan who passed away in 1996, and by her great grandson Kyle DeBow. Sadie will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 6-8pm and Sunday 1-3 and 6-8pm.
