Obituary of Freda Murphy
It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our dear sweet wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Freda Victoria (Ferguson) Murphy. Freda passed away on May 7, 2014 at the Sussex Health Center.
Freda was born in Saint John, NB on May 24, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Hilda (Merry) Ferguson.
One of Freda's fondest childhood memories was that of playing in the Martello Towers. Though she enjoyed being a homemaker, Freda worked part time for many years at the Kings County Record as well as at Rainbow Printing.
Freda enjoyed watching wrestling and if you were sitting close to her, you had to be careful as she would get quite involved in the action. She liked to do jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, eating chocolate ice cream but most of all, she loved being with her family.
Freda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be truly missed.
Freda is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Arnold Murphy; her son, Hawlie Murphy (Heather); three daughters: Anna Flaglor (Sonny), Linda Meagher (John) and Darlene Murphy (Neil); her grandchildren: Marlene (Eddie), Steven Murphy (Sherilyn), Amanda Jones(Chris), Kathleen and John Meagher (Angela), Angela Flaglor, Dani and David O'Donnell; her brothers: Clarence "Super" (Betty) and Frank; her sisters: Laura (George), Hilda (Weldon) and Cora Jean (Carl); her 10 precious great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Freda was predeceased by her brothers: Bob (Erma), Fred (Cecilia), Jim (Bern), (Roberta), Donald (Lil), her infant sister Jenny and her beloved Chihuahua Sandy.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176. As per Freda's wishes, there will be no visitation.
A graveside service will be held at St. Phillips Roman Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:00 pm. There will be an opportunity to speak with the family following the service at the Jones Memorial Park immediately following the service.
If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the NB Diabetic Association or the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
