Uncle Russell was one-of-a-kind and truly had the patience of a Saint. I well remember us kids going haying around the old farm (Nanny and Grampy's). While we were 'helping' (aka trying not to get in the way too much; while trying not to fall off the wagons), Uncle Russell was always kind and never seemed bothered by having swarms of kids around. Best of all was when Marjorie and Russell would let us practice driving a tractor. What a thrill that was as a youngster! There is no doubt that he simply loved having kids around and he encouraged us to learn by doing. His influence in my younger years and the opportunities to be around the farm and see first hand the farm 'chores' has stayed with me through the years. His work ethic was inspirational, to say the least. He was nothing but salt of the earth and a pillar of the family and the community. It is an understatement to say that he will be missed.

I so remember back in the 90s being up at Russell and Marjories helping with the crop of turnips in the fall of the year. They had to be picked and the tops cut off. Russell always called them turmits. This one day myself his sister inlaw Shirley Wilcox and a few others in the yard with our backs to the road bending over picking up the turnips to work on. Every once in awhile a transport would go by and toot its horn. We all laughed and kept on working. This one time I went to straighten up and caught Russell pulling his arm up and down to get a trucker to toot the horn in the tractor trailer, guess what, he got caught red handed and we figured out why then why the trucks were tooting their horn driving by. We laughed so hard at that and if I am not mistaken poor Russell got red in the face for getting caught. I will never forget that and teasing Russell about his turmits.
