Obituary of Evelyn Christian
Evelyn Christian was born in Apohaqui on October 7, 1936; she was the daughter of the late Colin King and Jennie (Caldwell) King both of Sussex and the wife of the late Everett Davis Christian who passed away in 2001.
Evelyn grew up in Moncton and graduated from the Victoria Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. Her husband's work took her to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland before finally settling back in New Brunswick in 1968. While raising her three children in Saint John, she pursued her nursing career through private-duty nursing, working in nursing homes and in several local family doctors' offices. She and her husband Dave retired to Sussex in 1986, where she kept busy golfing, knitting, wintering in Florida and welcoming new grandchildren. She especially enjoyed quilting and was one of the founding members of the Sussex Vale Quilting Guild. After her husband's death in 2001, she went on adventures with quilting friends to Australia, Texas and Iowa, continuing to spend her winters in Florida until 2007, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Evelyn will be forever remembered by her children Judy Haley (Reed) of St. Stephen, Brian Christian of Fredericton and Stephen Christian of Sussex; by her grandchildren: Nicholas, Joshua and Emily Forster and Trevor and Allison Christian; by her brother James King of Manitoba, her sisters: Edna Ross of Ontario and Helen Marr of Fredericton, as well as several nieces and nephews.
It is with both a sense of sadness and relief that we announce the death of Evelyn Irene Christian who passed away on August 26, 2014 at Kingsway Care Centre in Quispamsis, at the age of 77.
Sadness for what she has meant to this world as a loving parent, grandparent and friend. Relief, for the years of living with Alzheimer's had gradually and cruelly claimed her vibrant personality.
Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother William (Billy) King, her sister Marion Parlee and by her daughter-in-law June Christian.
Many thanks to the dedicated staff and those who cared for Mom at Kingsway Care Centre- the loving environment provided for her was second-to-none and will always be remembered and appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).
A Service celebrating Evelyn's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday morning August 30th at 10:30 followed by an opportunity to visit with the family the service.
