Douglas William Arnold was born in Saint John, on June 21, 1939 and was the son of the late William and Rowena (Clem) Arnold. Doug lived and went to school in Sussex and graduated in 1957. He joined the Air Force and was proud to serve his country. He attended Community College to become a welder and went on to work and retire from the Saint John Shipyard and Atlantic Towing for 43 years. Doug was a family man. He and Verna were married for over 52 years and they had a wonderful life. Doug worked very hard to take care of his family as they were his world. Doug and Verna raised two daughters, Heather and Donna, and Doug was very proud of his daughters and all of his grandchildren for what they had achieved. Doug loved to travel and especially the weekends to the family cottage in Parlee Brook, hiking Friar's Nose was the highlight of every thanksgiving. He enjoyed many bus tours, cruises, family trips and he especially loved taking the 1955 Ford across Canada. Special family occasions included thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries all together sharing stories and laughs around the table.  Doug was very active within St. David's United Church in Rothesay as well as a member of the Valley Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed many sports such as playing hockey, canoeing, fishing, hunting and taking part in many ATV runs with his buddies. Doug was a member of the St. Martins Masonic Lodge #30, the ATV Sussex Club, NBAAC Fundy Region Car Club and the United Church of Canada in Rothesay. Doug was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love. He will be solely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Verna (Graham); his daughters: Heather Fraser (Ian) of Moncton and Donna Arnold of Rothesay; his sisters: June R. Jordan (Victor), Carolyn Folkins (Briant), Pat Bonnell; his grandchildren: Kassandra Hawker, Hilary Hawker, Andrew Arnold and Erik Fraser as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins. Mr. Douglas William of Rothesay, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on October 6, 2014 at the age of 75. He is predeceased by his brothers: Gerald, Richard, Harold and Owen. Doug’s family wishes to express their appreciation for all the kindness and comfort shown to them during Doug’s illness and since his passing. A service celebrating Mr. Arnold’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Thursday, October 09, 2014 at 2:00 pm. St. Martins Masonic Lodge #30 F&AM, assisted by Zion Lodge #21 F&AM,will host a tribute on Thursday at 1:45pm. A private family interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery.
