Obituary of Currie Teakles

Currie was born in Norton on September 22, 1936 and was the son of the late Ira Andrew Teakles of Norton and Luella Edna (Davidson) Teakles. Currie went to school in Southfield in a one room school house and had to walk to and from school everyday. He enjoyed working in the woods with his father and helping out on the farm. After Currie finished school he went to work as a mechanic at the Roachville Garage. In 1958, he met Winnie Betteridge in Sussex who turned out to be the love of his life. Their courtship lasted over a year and they were married in Waterford on March 21, 1959. They built their only home in Ratter Corner in the summer of 1959 and in May of 1960 they welcomed the first of five children and had four more over the next ten years. Currie was an avid hunter and fisherman; he had a camp on his property where he spent many hours hunting with Bill Loder, his best friend from Newfoundland. Currie owned and operator of Teakles Salvage and later worked as a mechanic at Ron's Esso. Early in the 1990's he bought a tractor and maintained the grass on the sides of the Trans Canada Highway, due to ill health, he retired in 2007. Currie was a son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, he will live on in the hearts of Winnifred "Winnie" (Betterridge) Teakles his beloved wife of 55 years, his son, Randy and Tina Teakles of Southfield; his daughters: Wendy and Dan McGinnis of Drury's Cove, Cheryl Mason of Sussex and Lorraine and Robbie Armstrong of Springfield; his grandchildren: Brodie, Dalton, Lucas, Nick, Brianna, Josh, Zack, Molly, Kyle and Randi; two great grandchildren: Landon and Brooklyn; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Currie Orren Teakles of Drury's Cove Rd., passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on December 16, 2014 at the age of 78.
