It is with heavy hearts the family of Robert Ness announce his passing which occured peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at home surrounded by love and his family. Born in Belleisle Creek, NB on December 23, 1923, he was the second eldest of the late Robert and Mabel (McConnell) Ness and the beloved husband of Eleanor (Bell) Ness. Bob married the love of his life, Eleanor, on May 2, 1949. They went on to share a wonderful life raising their family. Next to Bob's family, his passion was work. He took great pride in taking care of his wife and children. Bob retired from the Department of Transportation after 33 years as Bridge Superintendent in both Kings and Saint John counties. He was responsible for the bridges and the ferries. Bob had many interests which included working with his hands: wood working, building homes, barns, churches, halls, boats, furniture, cabinets and lathe work. He also enjoyed photography, technology, writing "My Story" at the age of 81 on the computer. Bob developed and marketed 25 acres of Christmas trees and raised 80 head of Purebred Hereford Cattle. He also took pride in the vegetables and flowers he grew. Bob was a life long learner and devoted member of St. Paul's United Church. Bob enjoyed traveling within Canada, USA, and to Holland in 1995. While in Holland, he graciously accepted a medal from the Dutch Government for his professional role in the liberation of Holland. In October 2014 he was awarded the Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour by Vincent Hommerril, Consul General of France. Bob was very generous with his love, his time, resources and talents. The legacy he leaves behind is one of love, kindness, generosity and patience.
