Obituary of Vera McLaughlin
A special person in all facets of life, that was Mary (Vera) Veronica McLaughlin (Kelly). She was silent but so so strong and determined. She was sociable, caring and so considerate of others. First of all, Vera was a young war-bride. She met her husband, Dave, in England and returned with him to New Brunswick to begin making a new life in Canada. After giving birth to two sons, Gerard and Anthony, Vera contracted tuberclosis and was forced to spend nearly two years confined to a hospital bed while battling the horrific sickness. She recovered and continued to make a special life, including the birth of her only daughter, Margaret.
Vera was a special wife to Dave, and a special mother to her children, helping all of them in all phases of their development to adulthood. She was always positive and encouraging no matter what their endeavours. Vera's house was a special place, not only to Dave and her children, but to all the extended McLaughlin family in Canada and all the friends she would make over the years.
Very special to Vera were members of the Sussex war-brides association. They were a group that loved to meet, talk and laugh about happenings in their homes here and in England, too, and most of all, they totally enjoyed a good party that included lots of singing. Later, when travel became easier, Vera returned to England on numerous occasions to visit family. She totally enjoyed the trips and the re-unions with her brother and sisters, but it wasn't very long before it was time to return to Sussex to attend to the special needs of her family.
Vera was born in Liverpool on March 20, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Henrietta (Langley) Kelly. She will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Margaret Demerchant and her husband, Earle, of Wards Creek; her sons: Gerard and his wife, Monique, of Dieppe, and Anthony and his wife, Helen, of Bloomfield; her brother: Gerard Kelly and his wife Mercia of Liverpool, England; her sister: Joan Pezzotta and her husband, Carlo, of Liverpool, England; four grandchildren: Alicia (Scott Shannon) of Fredericton, Marc, Felix and Paskalle; three great grand-children: Jena, Kaitlyn and Seamus; her sisters-in-law: Betty, Rita and Margaret McLaughlin and Clara Stephen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her husband, Dave, who passed away in 2002, two infant children: Philip and John; three sisters: Barbara, Lily and Imelda, and by her brother: John.
Mrs. Mary Veronica (Vera) McLaughlin of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on May 12, 2011 at the age of 84.
