Obituary of David Nash
Dave was born in Ottawa, on June 4, 1928; he was the son of the late Charles and Ann (Dixon) Nash.
As Dave's father was with the BMO they moved several times. As a result his youth was spent in Fredericton, Amherst and Buckingham Que. Dave and his brother were lucky to have parents who liked the outdoors. Swimming, hiking, skiing, hunting and camping beside trout streams was the norm for them. They were a close knit family and Dave and his brother still had fun talking old times while sipping martinis, the more martinis the taller the stories.
In 1947 Dave moved to Belleville, ON to work at the Northern Electric Co. cum Nortel where he had many interesting jobs over his 38 year career. Dave started out setting up and repairing machinery for the production personnel, later he joined the field maintenance department where their function there was to maintain the Pine Tree Radar line from coast to coast. They were a 12 man crew and were away from home three weeks of each month. The rest of his working life was in the plant engineering department, where they maintained all the buildings, planned the rearrangement of offices and production areas as products changed. Dave still had time to spend at the cottage in ON, as well as hunting and fishing with family and friends.
In 1948 Dave married Eileen (Day) and had a good life for 47 years and raised five children and he was very proud and loved them all. They have given him 12 grandchildren and so far six great grandchildren and he enjoyed them all and loved spending time with them.
They lost Eileen to cancer in 1995 and Dave believed this brought them even closer as a family. Dave was a cub leader, belonged to the Drizzle Lake Hunting Camp and also the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Since then, Dave moved to Sussex and married Libby Kelly and they spent a lot of time traveling, walking, bowling, canoeing Swimming, dancing and fishing with the grandchildren and spending time at the cottage at Grand Lake.
Dave maintained the tradition of being a Montreal Canadian Fan, much to Libby's chagrin. He joined St. Mark's Anglican Church in 2009, was made a church warden in 2011, and liked to participate in the various church activities. He was a member of the Sussex Senior Centre and the Sussex Vale Golden "K" Club where he held various executive positions.
Dave is survived by his wife Libby (Kelly); his daughter: Carol Cockins and her husband Dale from Roslin, ON, four sons: Terry and his wife Chris from Belleville, ON, Steve and his wife Karen from Thunder Bay, ON.
