Obituary of Buster Macumber

Buster was born in Saint John on February 1, 1930; he was the son of the late Herbert and Minnie Louise (Porter) Macumber. Buster grew up in the North End near Rockwood Park. He would say he went to school to grade 24 because he repeated grade eight three times, he carried his books, strapped to the back seat of his bike, and the only time he took the books off his bike was if he had written homework to do, not to say the homework was done because the books were re-strapped to the bike and stayed there from day to day, never making into the house. In 1951, Buster married Doris Watters and later divorced. They had two children; Kim in 1962 and Les in 1965 (Kim wanted no part in this and stayed with the neighbours, when Les was born Buster went over to pick her up she told him she would rather stay there and rock on the rocking horse). Buster attended St Matthews Presbyterian Church and Tabernacle Church at Haymarket Square. He worked at Central Equipment-Car, Parts and Sales and then went to Crosby Motors in the parts department. They had three family dogs, Dusty, then Rastice, then Stubby. They spent time camping at the KOA in Penobsquis. In 1981, he met Elizabeth Ann and on February 18, 1984, they said. "I DO" and they moved their mini home to land in marshal hill, it was 14x60 when they started, when he was done renovating it was 28x60. In 1995 the moved to Sussex Corner and for the past 18 years, spent their summers in St Martins. Buster was retired from CT Industries; he was a member of the Happy-go-lucky fiddlers and the Salvation Army Community Church. He will live on in the hearts of Elizabeth his beloved wife of 31 years, his son Les Macumber and his wife Diane of French Village, daughters: Kim Greer and her husband Tony of Quispamsis, Kim Carhart and her husband Randy of Apohaqui, Tammy Mason and her husband Ronnie of Wards Creek, his brother Bart Macumber and his wife Pat of Hatfield Point, his sister Gwen Ward of Martinon, his grandchildren Philip and Kelsey Greer of Quispamsis, Courtney Carhart (Gavin Conrad) of Saint John, Ryan Carhart of Sussex, Krystal Mason (Chris Ridgway) of Quispamsis, Christopher Mason (Jessica Beach) of Sussex, Candace London and her husband Sean of Saint John, Liam Macumber of French Village; his great grandchildren: Skylar, Kaleb, Kia, Syndee, Micah, Callie, Jadon, Skylar, Aiden and Andrew. Mr. "Buster" Linwood Herbert Macumber of Sussex Corner passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 13, 2015 at the age of 85. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A service celebrating Buster's life will be held from Salvation Army Community Church on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11:00 am followed by a reception in the Church basement.
