Obituary of Madeline McFarland

Madeline was born in Mt. Pisgah on December 21, 1925; she was the daughter of the late William H. E. (Elmer) Carr of Mt. Pisgah and Minnie Maude (Hawkes) Carr of Goshen. She attended elementary school and grew up on a dairy farm with her sister Grace and brother Murray. She spent many happy hours walking the fields and planning their crops with her dad. During her High School years Madeline boarded in Sussex. In 1944 she attended provincial Normal School in Fredericton and taught in various country schools on a local license. After marrying Clarence in 1946 her focus changed to that of a homemaker, wife, mother and companion to her mom after her father's death. Madeline was always up to any task; she was a very accomplished seamstress and cook. She took great pride in her home and she was especially proud of the house she, Clarence and her father-in-law, built. Mom enjoyed landscaping the yard, building rock walls and creating beautiful and colourful flower beds. As her family grew mom found time to be involved in her community and church. She especially enjoyed her involvement in Eastern Star, ACW and the Guild. In retirement years she enjoyed her winters in Florida with Clarence, where they made many new friends and enjoyed being involved in their winter community. The last few years were spent in the comfort of her home she had worked so hard to build. Frequent visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a highlight of her life. She will live on in the hearts of Clarence, her devoted and beloved husband of over 68 years; her daughters: Carlene Patterson and her husband Ronald of Amherst, NS, Barb Fanjoy and her husband Marshall of Urney, Cathy Cameron of Saint John and Ann McLean and her husband Levi of Sussex; her daughter-in-law Sandra McFarland of Cambridge; her sister-in-Law Pauline Carr of Sussex; 13 grandchildren: Stephanie Oldfield and her husband Tim of Dartmouth, NS, Brent Patterson of Peterborough, ON, Jim Fanjoy of Barrington Passage, NS, Robert Fanjoy of Toronto, John Fanjoy of Iqualuit, Martha Fanjoy and her husband Terry Beaulieu of Calgary, Anna Fanjoy and Jory Lane of Toronto, Katie Mitchell and her husband Richard of Saint John, Michael Cameron of Saint John, Nicholas Cameron and Claire Lamont of Saint John, Jamie McFarland and his wife Fawn of Ottawa, Jennifer McFarland and Guillaume Savoie of Calgary and Luke McFarland of Fredericton; 12 great grandchildren: Matthew, Ellen, Adam, Will, Jeneca, Seth, Riel, Lillie, Gavin, Darien, Kainen and Lucie. Mrs. Madeline Eugene McFarland of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on March 22, 2015 at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her son Jim and by her son-in-law Tim Cameron, her brother Murray Carr and by her sister Grace Eveleigh. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex.
