Obituary of Mildred Graham

Mildred was born in Saint John, NB on January 3, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Hedley Cooper of Clones, NB and Ethel (McCullum) of Gagetown. She attended school in Saint John until moving to Coote Hill when she was 15. Where she met Stanley Graham and in 1942 they were wed. Stan left to serve his country during the 2nd World War. During this time, their first daughter, Carole was born. Mildred and Carole lived with her parents at their homestead in Coote Hill until Stan returned from the war. Shortly after, they moved to Martinon where Stan built a lovely home for the family. In 1947, Lynda was born and she and Carole loved spending time with their cousins up the road. They would play in their uncle's shed and watch the drive in movies from their aunt and uncle's bathroom windows. Carole used to get off the school bus and stop at the little store to buy candy to share with Lynda. Sadness would come to the family when their beloved daughter Carole passed away from a sudden illness at age 7. A couple of years passed and a third daughter, Pam, was welcomed into the family. The family spent a brief time in Saint John before moving to Michigan in 1957. Stan was seeking work that would offer a more financially secure life for his family and he found work as a carpenter in Dearborn, Michigan. They developed many life long friendships while living there. They became very involved in the Methodist Church and enjoyed monthly dinner gatherings with friends and served on various committees. Mildred also enjoyed playing cards, going to Bingo, working in her garden and knitting. Her greatest pleasure was in caring for her family, she provided wonderful home cooked meals, and her baking was second to none. She cared for her friends as though they were family and everyone was always welcome in her home. When grandchildren started to arrive they would become one of her greatest joys in life. They LOVED their Grammie and Grampie. Grampie would play with them for hours and Grammie would bake their favorite goodies. Her husband, Stan, became ill and they moved back to Canada in 1985. He passed away a year later and she remained in Sussex. Eventually she would be surrounded by 10 great grandchildren. Her last years were spent at Kiwanis Nursing Home where she was cared for with love and compassion. She will continue to live on in the hearts of her daughters Lynda Kennedy and her husband Dave of Keller, Texas and Pam Herrera and her husband Ruben of Vista, California; her grandchildren: Traci Kennedy of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Kennedy and his wife Aubrey of Larkspur, Colorado, Kristen Moats and her husband Leslie of Larkspur, Colorado, Tara Ramirez and her husband Carlos of Chappaqua, New York and Eric Kelley and his wife Shana of Bellevue, Washington; her great grandchildren: Josh, Andrew, Anna, Morgan, Jack, Davis, Adeline, Emma, Ryan and Eamon; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mildred Graham of Sussex Corner passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on Saturday March 28th, 2015 at the age of 93. She is predeceased by her husband Stanley James Graham, her daughter Carole, her brother Ralph Cooper, and by her sisters: Joanne Kovachik, Myrna O'Hara, Marion Polley and Greta Kovachik. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home 34 Sunnyside Dr. Sussex (506)433-1176) where visitation will be held on Monday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Service Celebrating Midlred's Life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel Tuesday morning at 11:00am followed by an opportunity to visit with the family. A private family interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Saint John. "They fall softly on our lives, those moments that make all the difference, those moments touched by a mother's love. They shine down through our lives with magical light… forever."
