Obituary of William Swift

Mr. William Francis Irving Swift was born in Saint John on June 4, 1951; he was the son of the late Irving and Greta (Reynolds) Swift. He graduated from Sussex High School in 1971 and studied at the NB Institute of Technology/UNB Saint John in 1973 where he received a diploma in Business Administration. He also attended the Bank of Montreal Institute of Learning and Queens University, where he furthered himself in a Strategic Operations Management Course and an Executive Development Program. Bill moved to Sackville in 2002 to oversee the establishment of Moneris Solutions Sackville location, and is well- known in the community, as a friend, fellow curler and golfer and volunteer. He joined the board of directors for Renaissance Sackville in 2003, where he was a Treasurer for the volunteer-driven development organization and later, Chairperson. Bill was involved with the Greater Sackville Chamber of Commerce where his efforts were focused on revitalizing Sackville's downtown area. He participated in the enormous effort to raise over $1.2-Million for the Tantramar Regional Civic Center and was an active member of the Centre's Executive Committee, where he worked to establish the Community Market. Bill was past President and Chair of the fundraising committee of the Sackville Rotary Club. Thanks to the fundraising initiatives that Bill has spear-headed, the club is able to sponsor two local high school students every year for the Rotary Youth Exchange program, provide assistance to poor communities in Africa and Peru, send local children and adults to Rotary camps for the disabled and support many other local community projects. He was a member of the Canadian Bankers Association, the Co-chair of Sackville Affordable Housing, Past Chair of Contact NB, Chairman of the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation and Chairman of Sackville's Water and Sewer Advisory Committee. After 35 years as a Senior Manager for the Bank of Montreal, Bill changed careers and joined the Century 21 Realty team. Bill was an inspiring community leader. In his friendly, considerate and supportive way, he shared his considerable skills by leading in the business and volunteer sectors and making new friends every day. Mr. William Francis Irving Swift of Sackville passed away at his residence on April 27, 2011 at the age of 59. Bill is survived by his wife Nancy Swift, beloved wife, Nancy; his sister Regina of Riverview; his aunts: Sara Redmond and family of Fredericton, Pat Kent of Minnesota and Vera Lynch of Antigonish; his mother-in-law, Betty Norrad of Sussex; his sister-in-law, Pat McGibbon and her husband Murray of Sussex and their children: Caran Seward and her husband Sheldon of Red Deer, Alberta and their children: Liam, Blake and Riley; Brandy McGibbon and Tim McMullon of Moncton, Coleen Gibson and her husband Morgan of Sussex and their children: Connor, Bailey and John Paul; his brothers-in-law: Gord Norrad and his wife Pat of Courtney, BC, and his children: Sam and Sarah Norrad of Victoria, BC and Tom Norrad of Halifax, NS and his children: Luke Norrad of Ottawa and Cale Norrad of Lower Sackville, NS. And last but not least, his loyal friend Mardi.
