Obituary of Marguerite Keys

Marguerite was born in Markhamville on September 8, 1931; she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sarah (Allen) McFarlane. Marguerite grew up and went to school in Markhamville. She began her working career housekeeping in Sussex and with T.E. Eaton Co. in Moncton. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Murray Keys and they began their life together in Mount Middleton. Their first child was born in 1954 and then they moved to Sussex, where the next four children arrived between 1960 and 1967. In, 1966 they bought a house on Cedar Avenue which was a wonderful neighborhood to raise a family. Their family was complete and Marguerite was busy raising them but always found the time to go to the camp in Poodiac. After Murray's death in 1980 she continued to keep herself busy. One by one the children left home to expand their own lives. Marguerite was thrilled when she became a grandmother; she became a hockey grand mom and was an important part of their lives. As her grandchildren grew she found more time for herself. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting and reading, visiting with friends and neighbours and going for drives and dinners with her sisters-in-law. Marguerite was a long time member of the UCW and 50 Plus Group in Waterford. She worked part-time at Carleton Cards and Zellers. She never missed a balloon fiesta, she baked Christmas treats every year for staff at Sharps Drug Store and Buchannan's Furniture and always had home baked goodies for anyone stopping for a visit. Marguerite was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will live on in the hearts of her daughters: Janice Smith and her husband Murray of Hampton, Pam MacNeill and her husband Neil of Collina and Kathy Parlee and her husband Greg of Norton; her sons: Stephen Keys and Maureen Hourihan of Fox Hill and Mark Keys of Smiths Creek; her brothers: Leon McFarlane and his wife Reta of Waterford and Raymond McFarlane and Jane Jeffrey of Sussex; her sisters: Lois Esmond and her husband Dennis of New Westminster and Helen McLeod of Quispamsis; seven grandchildren:Chris Smith of Salt Springs, Tanya Copp and her husband Elias of Sussex, Amy Smith and her fiancé Colin Forsythe of Saint John, Nick MacNeill of Collina, Brandon MacNeill and his fiancée Krystal Mason of Pleasant Ridge, Kelsey Parlee of Norton and Geoff Parlee and Miranda Kilpatrick of Upham; her great grandchildren: Isaiah and Abbie;three sisters-in-law: Edris Keys of Sussex, Dot Coates of Sussex and Freda McFarlane of Waterford;as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Marguerite Ferne Keys of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on April 10, 2015 at the age of 83. She is predeceased by her husband Murray Keys who passed away in 1980; her brothers: Milford McFarlane, Stewart and Dot McFarlane; her sisters: Greta and Cecil Adair, Vivian and Murray Snyder and Ruby and Nelson McFarlane; her sister-in-law Lil and Ron McMillan and by her brothers-in-law: Bob Keys, Albert Coates and Willard McLeod. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Tuesday 1-3 and 6-8pm. A service celebrating Marguerite's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 am, followed by a reception with the family at the Royal Canadian Legion.
