Obituary of Dorothy Wilson

Dorothy was born on August 3, 1922 in Penobsquis; she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Catherine (Dunfield) Goddard and the wife of the late Donald Wilson who passed away in 2014.

Dorothy and Don, after receiving permission from the service, were married. She had known Don for most of her life. They did everything together. They had picnics and hiked through the trails at Fundy National Park. They held each others hands every night at bedtime and never went to bed angry. Their love continued for 72 years and will live on forever. They were not blessed with children so they were the most important person to each other. Everything she did was with Don in mind and he for her. Dorothy had high moral values and loving to members of her family and friends.

Dorothy was a natural caregiver having started at an early age helping her mother care for an ailing sister and then at her mother's side. Doctors would call her to assist with bed patients when they were short of nursing staff. Doctors told her it was a real loss to the profession that she never became a nurse but Don wanted her to be a stay at home wife. She and Don also left their home on Essex Street and moved in with his father for two years to care for him during his fight with cancer.

Dorothy was blessed to have the "cream of the crop" in her own caregivers. She developed a loving relationship with each of them. In return they loved her too and took excellent care of her.

Dorothy was very involved in her community having been a member of St. Paul's United Church, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary #20, the Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the UCW at St. Paul's and a member of the St. Paul's Senior Citizens Club.

Although we will miss her terribly, it is comforting to know she is back with Don. They are holding hands again in a place with no more pain.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
