Obituary of Edith Miriam Stephenson

Edith was born on March 26, 1919 in Cambridge, NB to a farmer: Emerson and Eva Faris. At the age of one she moved about 1km to the address where she would live out the rest of her life. Edith met Bill while he was working on building the airport located on HWY695 toward Jemseg and in 1939, they were married. During WWII they lived in Fredericton for a year while Bill worked as a dispatch motor cycle rider and when he went to Kingston, Edith went back to the family home to help her parents with the farm. Upon his return, Bill opened his own garage located beside the home and Edith used to help him by washing car parts and assisting with other necessary jobs. On Remembrance Day 1946, Edith gave birth to her first child, Donna and in 1953, their second child, Marilyn. Edith’s family life was very full. In the family home with her and Bill there also lived; Edith’s parents, her sister, her brother and his wife (while their house was being built), a boarder and everyone always got along very well, they all had their jobs and they did them. Edith and her sister both looked after their parents in the family home until their passing; their father first in 1960 and then their mother in 1962. Edith’s home was always very lively. In 1958, Bill had an accident leaving him blind so company usually came to them; their door was always open, no one was ever turned away and the house was always filled with musicians, love and laughter. She enjoyed hunting deer and ducks with her husband; as well as spending time on the cabin cruiser that Bill had built for her. In 1984, Edith welcomed her first grandchild and then in 1988 her second. She was such a proud grandmother. In 1993, Edith lost her husband of 54 years and then six weeks later her brother passed (Ronald). The following year, Edith’s sister with whom she was very close, took seriously ill and she helped care for her at home for 12 years until her passing; also at the age of 96. In 2005, Edith was diagnosed with breast cancer, operated on and became a cancer survivor. In the remaining years of Edith’s life, she lived at home with her eldest daughter where she enjoyed going to many music functions and then having countless people coming into her home to entertain her. She was very happy to be able to stay in her home until the end of her long, loving life. Edith is survived by her daughters: Daughters Donna Stephenson (Roger) of Cambridge Narrows, Marilyn Day (Nelson) Cambridge Narrows, Grandson’s Matthew MacBeth and Jonathan MacBeth (Pam Hayden), Great Granddaughter Peyton Joan Edith MacBeth, Granddaughter Wendy Brideau (Gary Marks) Great Grandsons Bayton and Talon Brideau and Jackson Brideau Marks, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and her faithful companion, her little dog, Maggie. Edith is also survived by extended family, Marcel and Johanne Prevereau, and Don and Brenda Moffett. Mrs. Edith Stephenson of Cambridge Narrows, passed away on May 7, 2015 at the age of 96. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family; she is predeceased by her parents, infant brother, Arthur Farris, infant sister, Marion Farris, brother, Ronald Farris, sister Muriel Farris and sisters-in-law Garda Farris and Myrtle Stephenson.
