Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth McAllister

Margaret Elizabeth (Gregg) McAllister passed away in hospital on June 27, 2015, at the age of 85. Born on Snider Mountain, New Brunswick, on September 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Horatio and Meta (Hunter) Gregg and the wife of the late Walter Emerson McAllister. Margaret was loved by all who knew her as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She spent her life caring for the needs of her family. Margaret was known for her great cooking and quick wit. She loved knitting, red geraniums, and a good game of crokinole. Margaret attended the United Pentecostal Church in Sussex for over 30 years. Margaret is survived by her ten children: Shirley Ferris (Reginald) of Mill Cove; Ernest McAllister (Nancy) of Snider Mountain; Peter McAllister (Deborah) of Bedford, Nova Scotia; Murray McAllister (Carolyn) of Snider Mountain; Barbara McAllister of Rothesay; Beverly McAllister of Halifax, Nova Scotia; Wayne McAllister (Carol) of Sussex; Earl McAllister (Micheline) of Hubbards, Nova Scotia; Susanne McAllister of Snider Mountain (Nathan Phillips of Noonan); and Rachel Starr (Walter) of Andover, Minnesota. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; by two brothers-in-law: Aubrey McAllister and Ivan McAllister; and by six sisters-in-law: Marlene Taylor, Mary Bird, Lorna Kolls, Brenda Fowlie, Ellen Molloy, and Janice Chase. Margaret is predeceased by her siblings: Ronald Gregg, Charles Gregg, William Gregg, Mary (Gregg) McAllister, and infant sister, Hilda Gregg; by four brothers-in-law: Lloyd McAllister, George McAllister, Ernest Jordan, and Wilfred Jordan; and by two sisters-in-law: Mabel MacBeth and Judy Perry. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, New Brunswick (506-433-1176), where visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 30th from 2–4 and 6–8pm. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Wednesday, July 1st at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Hazen Ricker officiating. Interment will be at Snider Mountain United Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated.
