Obituary of Shannon Alexandra McFarlane

Our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter and friend was born in Saint John, September 25th, 1993. She was a happy, quiet baby. Her mom actually had to go to speech therapy to learn how to teach Shannon to talk. But once Shannon got started it was hard to get her to stop. From the start what she loved she loved wholeheartedly – she wore out around 50 copies of the Lion King, she loved camping at Big Salmon River, playing baseball and spending time outside in nature especially spending time with animals, especially her dog Cooper and her cat Kara. The beach and collecting sea glass were her favourite things. She grew into a quiet, thoughtful young woman with a dry sense of humour just like her father Eldon. Shannon loved spending time with her family; her nieces and nephews were her best friends.   However, the friends she made were cherished by her for a lifetime. We all remember Shannon’s love of music, the comedy of Jeff Dunham and her passion for mythology, astronomy and learning new things as well as doing puzzles with her grandmother. Shannon was always very well-dressed; although she hated make-up she would never be seen in public wearing sweatpants. When Shannon was eight she was diagnosed with epilepsy but she never let the challenges she faced define her. She never complained and was very proud of her accomplishments. Shannon graduated from Sussex Regional High in 2011. She was a very intelligent young woman and reading and   writing poetry played a large part in her life. Rather than ever say a negative thing about anyone, she would turn to her writing to work through her emotions. Shannon taught everyone who got to know her a lot about life, love and overcoming challenges. She will be dearly missed and the time we got to spend with her and memories we share will always be closely treasured. She will continue to live on in the hearts of her parents: Eldon and Dianne, her grandmother, Darlene McFarlane, her sisters: Denise and Michael Winchester, Sara DeBow and David Cameron, Angela DeBow and Allan Price and Jodi McFarlane; her nieces and nephews: Morgan (Alyssa), Dakota, Ethan, Jade, Ella and Lachlan; her aunts and uncles: Brenda and Bob Gray, Gail Dyer, Dale and Sheila Dyer, Stephen and Brenda Dyer, Richard and Sheila Dyer, Murray McFarlane, Stephen McFarlane and Cindy Kirk, Kenny and Darlene McFarlane, Betty and Brian Murray, Effie and Phillip Thorne, Dawn and Paul Adair and Sheryl McFarlane; her cousins: Amanda, Jennifer, Amy, Matthew, Nikita, Emma, Krista, Melissa, Jeremy, Katelyn, Shaun, Becky, Craig, Dustin, Cody, Tori,  Christopher, Mark, Trevor, Shawn, Jeffrey, Bradley, Kimberley, David, Michael, Jason, Andrew, Nikolaus, Casey, Kevin and Chelsea, as well as several friends. Shannon Alexandra McFarlane of Waterford, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on July 14, 2015 at the age of 21. She is predeceased by her uncle Greg Dyer, her maternal grandparents; George and Idora Dyer: her paternal grandfathers; Donald and Nelson McFarlane: and by her uncles Russell and Leonard McFarlane. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 6-8. A service celebrating Shannon's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
