Obituary of L. Austin Lewis
Austin was born in Salisbury, NB on February 29, 1924, he was one of seven children of the late Allen Munroe Lewis of Steeves mountain and Susan Ethel (O’Blenis) of Salisbury.
Austin grew up and attended school in Steeves Mountain. He served over seas during WWII with the North Shore Regiment of the Canadian Army. After the war, Austin lived in Sussex and was a mechanic with George Ebbett and on December 15, 1949, he married the love of his life, Harriett Marie Gosse who was living in Sussex at the time but was from Hamden White Bay Newfoundland. They began their life in Sussex and enjoyed a marriage that spanned over 65 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20, and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors; hunting, fishing, working around his woodlot, cross country skiing, skating, snowmobiling and drives in the country.
Austin will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife Marie, their children: Cynthia Hoogendam and her husband Casey of Belfountain, ON, and Richard Lewis and his wife Sylvia of Norton; his brother, Weldon Lewis and his wife Tressa of Moncton; their grandchildren: Cory of Orangeville, ON, Jillian and Kalyoni Lewis all of Moncton; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lovell “Austin” Lewis of Roachville passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on August 1, 2015 at the age of 91. He is predeceased by his sisters: Mildred Horseman, Lula Wilmot and Irene Lewis and by two brothers, Albert and Lloyd.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).
