Obituary of J. Ronald Devine
Mr. J. Ronald Devine of Kiwanis Nursing Home Sussex formerly of Main St. Sussex passed away on April 4, 2011 at the age of 90. Born in Sussex on April 19, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (McNaught) Devine.
Ron was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by two brothers: Eldridge and Bill; as well as two sisters: Kay Whalen and Phyllis Sadovsky.
Ron is survived by several nieces and nephews: Maureen Merrill and her husband Steve; Jane Sunderland; and Bill Whalen and his wife Lynn, all of Moncton; Ann Koepf of Arizona; Barbara Butler and her husband Charles of Florida; Judy Sadovsky of Oregon, Vince Sadovsky and his wife Karen; and Bill Sadovsky, all of Michigan; and Peter Sadovsky of Quebec.
Ron graduated from St. Francis Xavier University, Class of 1945 where he was student body president and co-managed the St. FX hockey team with legendary hockey broadcaster Danny Gallivan. Following university, Ron returned to his beloved Sussex where he has been a life long resident. In their later years, Ron and his brother Bill enjoyed buying and selling antiques as a hobby, and they would regularly be seen at auctions throughout the region. Ron was a great walker and was seen daily enjoying his long walks around Sussex.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier RC Church on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 10:00 am. The interment will take place at Wards Creek Cemetery in the spring.
