Obituary of Alice Muriel Hawker
Alice was born March 31,1927 at the Narrows and lived her childhood at Cody's, walking to the one room schoolhouse during the depression times. Her father Charlie Brown would grow vegetables and mother Eva (nee -Trebble) made preserves and homemade cooking to send on the riverboat as it called on each wharf and picked up wares to be sold at the market daily in Saint John.
At the consent of her father, she married Jack Wiggins in 1943 at the age of sixteen and would have her son John but not before Jack drowned during a duck hunting incident at Grand Lake. She then moved back to Cody's with Mom and Dad and John was born.
After a period she married Bill Hawker on July 10, 1946 and would have Yvonne and Bryant as well as acquire a stepson Hazen. She was a stay at home mom for many years belonging to the Ladies Aid, the Women's Institute and organizations such as Home and School and the Church. When Bill became ill in 1970, she took a job at McCready's Restaurant cleaning rooms in the motel and in 1976, when Bill passed away, she went on to work at the Kiwanis Nursing Home as a custodian until the age of 64 when she retired.
Alice stayed in the house where she and Bill were happy. She mowed the lawns and did whatever it took having those Sunday dinners ready if family called until the age of 73 when she moved to the Lions Senior's complex in Coles Island. She still continued to have those Sunday dinners.
At the age of 85, after a fall, Alice moved to Berwick Place where she lived until she was 88 years old.
