Shirley Perry

Obituary of Shirley Etta Perry

Shirley was born in Sussex on July 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late George H. Gailey and Victoria Mabel (Mason) Gailey. After George's untimely death in 1938, Victoria was blessed with a second love, Edward John Wood who raised Shirley and her siblings like his own. Shirley grew up on the family farm in the Head of Millstream. As many did at that time she left school at an early age to help raise the family. She met Garfield Perry and they were married April 5, 1952 and together they raised a family of their own. Garfield was a heavy equipment operator which brought him and his family to many parts of New Brunswick. However, Sussex was always home and eventually they managed to return and settle here once again. More recently, health issues arose that required a change in living arrangements, thus began Shirley's journey to Primrose Cottage and her new family there. Under the tender care of Lynn and her girls, Shirley blossomed, even to the point of returning to her love of knitting. The Christmas tree at the home this year was lovingly adorned with several of her precious tiny mittens. Shirley will live on in the hearts of her son Rocky and his wife Jill and their children Jeb and Mikaela all of Perry Settlement, NB, her daughter, Sonjia McGlashing and her husband Don and their daughter Torilynn Bebbington and her husband Chris and their children Isabelle, Ethan and Caden of Peterborough, Ontario, her sister, Glenna Boyd and her husband Richard of Belleisle, her brothers: Arnold Wood and his wife Doreen of Sussex, Daryl Wood and his wife Ann of Cranbrook, BC; her sister-in-law Ethel Gailey of Sussex; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Shirley Etta Perry of Primrose Cottage, Lower Millstream passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on December 30, 2015 at the age of 88. She is predeceased by her stepfather Edward Wood and by her brothers: Hartley, Talbert, Wesley, Emmerson and Elmer Gailey; Knowing her heart and her decisions to ask Jesus to be her Saviour gives us the assurance of her eternity... She will be missed but we are not sad to say "goodbye", rather "until we see you again" Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176).
