Obituary of Marlene May Briggs

Marlene was born in Toronto on August 13, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Roy Richmond of Thunder Bay and Irene (Morris) Richmond of Toronto. On November 12, 1960, Marlene married Hillis Briggs of Carsonville, New Brunswick, not knowing then, that they would live 52 happy years together until his passing in 2013. After the birth of their first child, Hillis took Marlene home to Carsonville, where their family grew and four more girls were born. As a young mother, Marlene had a big culture shock moving from Toronto to Carsonville, she had to quickly learn how to juggle the demands of running a house, cooking and caring for her children. Her capacity to love and forgive was unyielding, she never judged anyone, her love and pride for her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her pets was unending. She saw the beauty in all nature, one of her favorite things to do was to feed the birds and sit and watch them while she caught up with friends and family on the phone.  Marlene took pride in her preserves, chows and jams, her favorite thing about making them, was the ability to give them away to friends and family. She would have given the world to anyone who was in need. She took to time to make handmade cards for everyone on those special occasions. She worked alongside Hillis when they built their home, not to say she pounded many nails, but she certainly had her say. Marlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and member of the Christadelphian Ecclesia. She will live on in the hearts of her four daughters: Janice Baines and her husband Phillip of Roachville, Susan Briggs of Moncton, Sherri Craft and her husband Blair of Sussex, Diana Briggs and Martin Cook of Lower Millstream; 11 grandchildren: Tony Baines and his wife Deborah of Cambridge, ON, Jennifer Wetmore and her husband Joey of ON, Amanda Robinson and her husband Josh of Scarborough, ON, Rachel, Nathan and Noah Briggs all of Moncton, Tania MacDonald and her husband Jason of Berwick, Stacy Tayes and her husband Carl of Bloomfield Ridge, Melissa Baxter and her husband Russell of Slave Lake Alberta, Alex Craft of Berwick, Codi-Jo Cook and Ryan Rector of Salisbury; 11 great grandchildren: Caleb, Karys, Cayden, Summer, Carter, Chelsia, Dominic, Jaidon, Denver, Evelyn and Charlie; as well as several nieces and nephews. Marlene May Briggs of Carsonville, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 19, 2016 at the age of 72 and was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she is predeceased by her loving husband, Hillis who passed away January 1, 2013; their infant daughter, Carolyn; their grandson, Alex Cook and by her sister, Sharon.
