Obituary of Rodrique Jean Marie Gionet

Rod was born in Dalhousie, NB on September 28, 1937; he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas Gionet of Caraquet and Mary Philomene Gionet of Caraquet. He worked as a rigger and welder for a number of years in New Brunswick and throughout the state of Rhode Island in the United States. Rod was a kind, gentle soul with a quick wit. He enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, walking, early mornings, playing cribbage, darts and pool. He was also a huge hockey fan. His favorite team was the Chicago Blackhawks. Rod is survived by his daughter, Joanne Hughson and her husband Stephen of Sussex; his brother, Raymond Gionet and Louisette Therrien of Boisbriand, Quebec; his sister, Jacqueline Andersen and her husband Rudolph of Spring Hill, Florida; his grandchildren who endearingly called him “Pappy”: Shane (fiancé, Megan Pothier), Drew, Brandon, Lucas and Noah; his step grandchildren: Juanita & Taylor; his step great granddaughter, Kloe; his nieces: Brigitte Gionet of Quebec and Tracy Cloninger and her husband Marc of Louisville, Colorado; his nephew, Eric Andersen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his grand nephews: Kaspar, Boris, Bergen & Thor. It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Jean Marie Rodrique Gionet of Sussex, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 22, 2016 at the Sussex Health Centre at the age of 78. He is predeceased by his brother, Ronald of Quebec and by his son, Ronald. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11am, with Father Dan Bastarache officiating. A private family interment will take place immediately following the service in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Norton, NB.
