Obituary of Malcolm Wesley Sprague
Malcolm Wesley Mullett Sprague passed away suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 2, 2016.
Born in Quebec City on April 11, 1953 Mack was predeceased by his parents, Arnold Wesley Sprague, Della Elizabeth Mullett and brother in law Frank Derrah (Kim).
He is survived by his wife and soul mate June Derrah, sister Penny Clelland (Bill), sister Wesla Davey, brothers and sisters in law Larry Derrah (Mary), Linda Clark (Andrew), Dalton Derrah (Celeste) and Denise Derrah.
He will be fondly remembered by a wide circle of relatives and friends. After graduating from Saint John Technical School and MacDonald College of McGill University, Mack operated a poultry farm in Millville and was President of the NB Federation of Agriculture. Learning to scuba dive was life changing. He became an instructor, sold the farm, moved to St. Andrews and established Navy Island Dive Company. He attained the level of PADI IDC Staff. Mack was the definition of a Renaissance man.
He was a marine captain and Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Member, a skier, snowmobiler, hunter, carpenter and welder. He restored his vintage 1972 Honda CB350 to mint condition. He bred golden retrievers and loved cats. He was Worshipful Master of St Mark's Lodge, Member of the Luxor Shriners of Saint John and Treasurer of St Andrews Legion. Mack loved an audience - and we loved his quick wit, wonderful imagination, enthusiasm, kindness and megawatt smile.
Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Friday May 6 at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, St Stephen (506) 466-1844, followed by a Masonic Service.
