Obituary of Edith Audrey Armstrong
Edith was born on September 2, 1929 to James and Sarah Robinson. Edith had many brothers and sisters to grow and play with, all of them working very hard side by side whether it was on the farm, in the fields or in the woods.
Edith always loved to learn and go to school; although she did not graduate from high school she had the great ability to memorize things and often recited the poem "The Highwayman".
In the mid 1940's Edith was employed as a waitress at Lucas' Restaurant, where she met Harris Armstrong. They were soon married and moved to Long Settlement where they had their first born child - a daughter, Barbara. One year later they moved to their farm in McGregor Brook. Here they had 350 acres of wood and cleared land. They worked together to rebuild barns and over many years, restored the old farm house. The finished house was a beautiful sight to see and in 1953 they welcomed their second daughter, Sheila.
Edith was a beautiful cook and loved to make pickles and preserves each fall. Nobody left the Armstrong house hungry. Edith even made her own homemade wine. She also loved to knit and all her grandchildren were lucky to have a warm homemade pair of mittens. Edith counted herself very blessed to have all of her wonderful friends in her life. She enjoyed the phone calls from her neighbours, Murray and Ethel Bartlett; her many visits from Nancy Calhoun; as well as the visits and food from Marion Otis and Ida Moffett. She was so thankful for Bill Floyd who helped with snow removal and Gary Spicer who worked hard to help her with the yard work.
She was very proud of her little home on St. George Street and got her final wish; which was to stay and live in her home right up until 5 days before the end.
Edith will live on in the hearts of her two daughters: Barbara Dionne (Jean Claude) and Sheila Drury; her siblings: Donald Robinson (Elsie), Noble Robinson (June) and Myrna Cook; her grandchildren: Beth Drury, Joelle Toomey (Kéighan), Ellen Drury, Wilf Drury (Tina), Stephan Dionne (Cynthia) and Eric Dionne (Jolie), her great grandchildren: Jackson, Rayah, Andrea, Rikki, Rian, Jordan, Michael and Dawson; her sister-in-law, Jean Brown of Sussex; as well as several nieces and nephews.
