Obituary of Evelyn Mary McEwen
On Saturday, July 9th, 2016, Evelyn Mary (Parlee) McEwen of Berwick and most recently, of the Bayview Special Care Home, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional hospital at the age of 83. She was born in Studholm Parish, NB on September 13, 1932. Evelyn is the daughter of the late Harold Martin and Alice Mary (Chestnut) Parlee and wife of 45 years to the late Ronald McEwen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Evelyn was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was such a multitalented woman with hobbies in ceramics and wood carving. Evelyn was also a beautiful seamstress, making all of her daughters’ clothes throughout their childhood. She enjoyed knitting and absolutely loved tending to her flower garden at her home. Throughout her life, Evelyn had many wonderful driving adventures. She and Ronald would often jump in the car and go until they found just the right place for a roadside picnic. This tradition carried on through the generations. Evelyn travelled with her daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren all throughout Ontario and New Brunswick and they have fond memories of all the places they visited. Evelyn’s grandchildren were the “light in her eyes” and she completely adored each and every one of them. She loved her entire family dearly and will be forever in their hearts.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Rona Craig (Arnold Belding) and Alice Cowan (Bob Steele); grandson Adam (Thomasina Brown); great grandchildren Megan, Alex, Allen, Amelia and Shayne; Granddaughter-in-law Kelly Craig and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Along with her husband Ronald in 1996, Evelyn was predeceased by an infant son; grandson Larry Craig; her sister Jean Patterson and her brother Clifford Parlee.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) By Evelyn’s request, there will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Wednesday July 13th at 11:00 am with interment to follow in the Wesley United Cemetery.
