Obituary of Barth Wickenburg

Barth was born in Soest, (U), The Netherlands on September 04, 1925. He was the son of the late Barth M. Wttewaall van Wickenburg and Lucie Baronesse van der Feltz. After 32 years of teaching in Cedar Camp, Penobsquis, Riverside, Albert Co., Barth retired in 1984 from Sussex Regional High School, where he taught Physics and was the Science Department Head for 13 years. He was Chief instructor/commanding officer in 1122 Sussex School Cadet Corps and was an Instructor during WWII in the Royal Canadian Infantry (Active service). He served for 16 years in the 8TH Canadian Hussars Captain in various positions as Squadron Officer. He was a life member of the Association of the 8TH Canadian Hussars Captain and a Sussex Town Councillor for a number of years. He organized the Sussex & District Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Held local and provincial executive positions and was a national director of the CDA. He graduated from UNB with a BA and B.E.D. He was a member of the NB Society of Retired Teachers, the Sussex Branch # 20, Royal Canadian Legion for over 40 years. He was a life member of the Legion and Treasurer for 13 years and a director of the CNIB and the Cadet League (Army). In 1977 he received the Silver Jubilee Medal (Queen Elizabeth II) from CDA and in 1999 he received the Meritorious Service Metal from the Legion. In earlier years he was a member of St. Paul's United Church, the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) holding many offices. While he was with the Jaycees he initiated and organized the House numbering in the Town of Sussex. Mr. Barth M. Wttewaall van Wickenburg of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on February 24, 2011 at the age of 85. Barth is survived by his wife Evelyn (Burhoe) Wttewaall van Wickenburgh. Also survived by his sons; Richard D. Wttewaall van Wickenburgh and Susan Paterson of Hanover, Ontario and B. Gerard (Jake) and wife Joan Wttewaall van Wickenburgh of Dartmouth, NS. His grandson - Bartholomeus Gerard Wttewaall van Wickenburgh of Dartmouth, NS ,granddaughters - Keesha L. Dickson and her husband Scott of Waterfloo Ontario; Heather A. Wttewaall van Wickenburgh of Toronto, Ontario; Nicole B. Wttewaall van Wickenburgh of Dartmouth, NS. Two great granddaughters, Katherine (Kate) and Sophia Dickson.His sister in law, Eileen of Salt Spring Island, BC. as well as2 nieces and 1 nephew. Barth was predeceased by his son, Jeffery who passed away 1965 and by his brother - Gus who passed away in 1965.
