Obituary of Dorothy Marie Mallory

Dorothy was born in Comeau's Hill, Yarmouth Co. Nova Scotia on August 11, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evangeline (DeViller) Kenney and lived in Yarmouth with her 7 siblings until 1929, when her father died and her mother moved to Saint John to find work. Initially, the older siblings who were married looked after the younger ones. One by one as her mother had the money, she sent for them. In 1930, Dorothy came to Saint John on a tug boat named the Keith Kann. She always said that she was sent C.O.D. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper for the woman, who later would become her mother-in-law. There she met Lloyd Everett Mallory who was a young carpenter; they eloped on November 2, 1940 and moved to Hillsborough NB. Later they built a modest home on Westmorland Rd. in Saint John where the Mallory’s lived for the next 47 years. Together Dorothy and Lloyd had six children: Lloyd, Ron who passed away in 2012, Brian Mallory and his wife Patricia and Susan Morrison and her husband Paul as well as two predeceased infant children: Baby Everett and Baby Mallory; Dorothy was able to stay home to raise her family, who were the focus of her life. She loved music and shared her love of it with all her children. Dorothy taught them to play their favorite instruments even though she couldn’t read a note of music. She taught Ron the piano and couldn’t play it herself and taught the others the guitar and mandolin. In 1962, Lloyd and Dorothy built a summer camp in Black River, NB on the Bay of Fundy where the family enjoyed many summers. In 1969, Lloyd passed away from cancer at the age of 49, leaving Dorothy with the two youngest children still at home and $5.00 to her name. Her life was changed forever; she had to find employment and was able to find part time work cleaning for local doctors in Saint John where she made $100.00 a month, until her retirement in 1989. Later that year she sold the home she was so proud of and moved to Sussex to be closer to her sons. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to laugh, family get-togethers, cooking, crocheting, knitting and singing. No matter the chore Dorothy had at hand, it was always accompanied by her singing. Her music became her legacy and has been passed down through the generations. Dorothy has left her print on the hearts of her children: Susan Morrison and her husband Paul of Hanwell, NB; her sons: Lloyd Mallory of Cocagne, Brian Mallory and his wife Patricia of Sussex Corner, Ron Mallory, who passed away in 2012, and two predeceased infant children: Baby Everett and Baby Mallory; her brother, Herbert Kenney and her sister, Kaye MacRae of Saint John; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Marr-Mallory; her grandchildren: Lynn Mallory of Miramichi, Karen Mallory of Cocagne, Kari Mallory of Picadilly, Lori Walsh and her husband Pat of Sussex Corner, Cpl. RCMP Mark Morrison and his wife Christine of Drayton Valley, Alberta and Wendy Morrison of Fredericton; her great-grandchildren: Katie Boone, Rob Boone, Aiden Walsh, Blake Morrison, and Hailey Morrison and her great-great-grandchild, Grace Melanson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dorothy Marie (Kenney) Mallory of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on July 29, 2016 in her 93rd year. She is also predeceased by her brother Renard Kenney, four sisters: Ora Seeley, Freda Kent, Flossie Manchur and Nettie Field; her grandsons: Stephen and Scott Mallory and by her daughter-in-law, Janet Mallory.
