Obituary of Melita Lily Rooney

Mrs. Melita Lily (Hewlett) Rooney was born on May 25, 1946 in St. Anthony's, Newfoundland to Gordon and Sylvia (Fillier) Hewlett. Melita had a gypsy soul and at the age of 14, travelled to Smiths Harbour on vacation and there she met Albert. A few years later they would begin their family. Having four wonderful children: Larry, Doug, Sylvia and Berdena. In the late 80's, she had a second chance at love and married Calvin Rooney. She was very proud of her faith and loved attending church and reading her bible. She even taught Sunday School for many years and found a great passion in sharing the Lord with others. Growing up the kids remember Melita sharing her Bread of Life bible verses with them, she would have them choose a card and they always seem to be fitting at that time. Melita loved everyone, and always saw the good in others. She was a kind hearted, loving and compassionate woman. Who would forgive you in a second for anything you may have done and was a strong believer in second chances. The loves of her life were first and foremost; God, her children and grandchildren; to be closely followed by her love of animals and her love affair with food. She had quite the sweet tooth and she loved to eat out, although she didn't get to do it often. She especially loved Swiss Chalet and All Seasons and would have eaten out everyday if her wallet allowed. She also loved to spoil herself with an occasional glass of Earl's red wine. She even loved to share her food and always offered anything she might have, even if she only had what was on her plate. When you went to visit she never wanted her guests to leave; especially hungry and would offer them baked bread, muffins or biscuits and tea. She wanted to make sure she fed everyone. It didn't matter if you had just sat down to a meal, she was already planning the next one and she loved to entertain guests. Melita loved to pose for photographs but would get you to take a few so that she could have final approval, but she would never be caught without her lipstick. She could be seen stopping in the middle of the mall or sidewalk to reapply. She had a contagious spoken word, her little words of wisdom or bits of wit could often be heard repeated by her grandchildren. They loved to mimic her. "My Darling, My Love" Melita was a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be sadly missed. Melita will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Berdena Bryson and her husband Earl of Quispamsis; her sons: Douglas Young and his wife Dawn of Sussex and Larry Young and his wife Michelle of Saskatchewan; her mother, Sylvia Hewlett of Newfoundland; her sister, Doris Hewlett and her husband Don Parsons of Sussex Corner; her grandchildren: Matilda Steeves and her husband Kevin of Dieppe, Sara Norrad and Rob of Campbelton, Justin Young and his wife Laura of Wards Creek, Shania Young and Tyler of Thunder Bay, Dylan Young and Ocean-Leigh of Halifax, Ryan Green of Quispamsis, Brandon Green of Quispamsis, Brittany Foss of Sussex, Aiden Young, Emma Young, Allura Bell and Cody of Anagance, Keith Bell of Toronto, Tyler Bryson of Saint John and Sierra Bryson of Grand Bay- Westfield; her great grandchildren: Damion, Dakota, Torrien, Ophelia, Dominick, Emmett and Julian; her sister-in-law, Lucy Hewlett; her special Friends: Georgina Daigle and Sandie McCumber; as well as several nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
