Obituary of Matthew David Palmer

Matthew David Palmer was born in Saint John on May 22, 2003. He was the beloved son of Chris and Melana Palmer; loving brother of Mya and the adored grandson of his great Nanny, Madeline Gogan; his Grampy and Nanny: David and Barbara Palmer of Rothesay and his Pops and Nana: Ken and Ellen McBride of Sussex Corner. He loved to watch Mya play hockey for the Sussex Sonics and was a natural statistician, which was not a surprise to anyone because of how well he did in school. Learning came quite effortlessly to Matthew and with hard work he finished every year of school with honors. His time spent with his family and friends was what mattered most to Matthew. Whether it was attending summer camp at Camp Rotary, online gaming with his buddy Keegan and other friends, his yearly downhill skiing trip with his family in New Hampshire or just time spent at the trailer in Pine Cone Campground; he was the happiest just being with the ones he loved. Matthew was nothing short of extraordinary and was loved by everyone who met him. He was such a kind hearted and caring soul with a strong faith to his core. He loved to go to church and prayed every night. Matthew always put others before himself and often thought that there were many more children in this world whose challenges were greater than his own. His disability never slowed him down, and he was proud to share his story and his love for the organizations that helped him and his family. Matthew was truly fearless. The lives he has touched will be forever blessed by having loved this young man. Matthew will also be forever in the hearts of his cousins: Kate and Brett Palmer and their father, Mark Palmer of Fairfield, Courtney and Corey Marshall of Halifax and Lyndsay Palmer of Fredericton and their parents: Paul and Crystal Palmer of Quispamsis, Jordan Matthews of Fredericton and Jasmine Matthews of Moncton and their mother, Wendy Matthews of Sussex, Genevieve, Emilie and Logan Boucher and their parents: Michele and Jean Boucher of Montreal Emma and Megan Stymiest and their parents: Lynette and Michael Stymiest of Miramichi and Maggie, Alex, Kailob and Payton Palmer and their father, Bruce Palmer (dec'd); Along with many extended family members and lots of friends, Matthew is also survived by his four-legged, loyal, canine pal Daisy. Matthew David Palmer passed away unexpectedly at the Sussex Health Centre on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the age of 13, with his family at his side. He is predeceased by his Uncle, Bruce Palmer who passed away in 2014 and by his great Grampy, Albert Gogan who passed away in 2004. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Matthew’s life will be held from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place in Wards Creek Cemetery, immediately following the service, followed by a time of fellowship in the Saint Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church Hall. Donations in Matthew’s memory made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada or to the IWK Health Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
