Obituary of Wallace Vincent Norman
Mr. Wallace “Wally” Vincent Norman was born on August 3, 1950 in Pacquet, NFLD. Wally was born and raised in NFLD where he met the love of his life, Beryl. The two were married on November 30, 1973. Wally and Beryl both loved living in Newfoundland. However, in 1979 Wally’s mining career took he and Beryl to Manitoba, but this wouldn’t last long.
After just six months the young couple had experienced enough of the cold weather in Manitoba and moved East to New Brunswick. First, they settled in Bathurst and then in 1985, the two moved their family to Sussex and began life in the small town.
Although work took the family away from Newfoundland, one thing remained true...Wally was a Newfie to his core and was very proud of where his roots came from. Every year, his trip home became a highlight for him that would be a special memory cherished the rest of the year.
Wally spent his entire working career in the mines. For twelve years he worked for Denison Mines. After the mine was closed, he found work in various places until finally getting hired on at PCS. Wally would stay at the PCS Mines until his stroke in 2010.
Wally had many hobbies and enjoyments in life. When he was young, Wally enjoyed kicking around the soccer ball and a good game of hockey. He was an extremely active and “on the go” kind of guy. Very rarely could he be found just sitting. Even after he his stroke, Wally was still on the move. Other than sports, he enjoyed spending time with his dogs, fishing and going for walks.
More than work and hobbies, Wally was a family man. His love for his children, and later grandchildren, could be seen through his actions. He was always there willing to fill a need or to simply be present and engaged with whatever his children and grandchildren were involved in. From being Jackie’s “pie guy”, Madison’s personal fan at her Motocross events, or simply driving the grandkids around, Wally was there...in the middle of it all.
After Wally took sick, he developed his own language of sorts, and in fact it became a regular dialect in the family circle and even caught on with his nurses. Wally was a strong silent type. He never complained, no matter what life tossed his way. He was a loving husband, dad, grampy and friend (especially to Jim and Carl).
Wally will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of his family and friends. He is survived by: his wife Beryl; his children: Garry Foss, Jackie Devine and her husband Kevin, Jo-Anne Norman and Tony Reicker, and Tina Cripps and her husband Roy; his brother: Clarke Norman; his sister: Daisy Coombs and her husband Charles; his brothers-in-law: Elmo Jones and Harold Verge; his grandchildren: Brittany, Erika, Madison, Blaine and Jessica; his great grandson: Jaxson; as well as, several nieces and nephews.
