Obituary of Ferne Alice Doyle

Born February 5, 1951 in Sussex, NB, Ferne was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth (Pollock) Campbell. Ferne was a capable, hard-working waitress by trade and she was known to many. Over the years, she had the opportunity to serve at several places. Some of her favorites were the Bluebird, the Fairway Motor Inn, Long’s Irving Restaurant and the Timberland, but you may also remember her from her time at Rory’s Mountain Inn, Uncle Fred’s, Hughes Restaurant and Murray Allen’s Ferne ventured out West in the late 70’s and it was there that she met her husband George Doyle. Unfortunately, the marriage was brief due to George’s passing in 1981 andby 1983; Ferne was ready to return to Sussex. She bought her home in Goshen and lived there until three months ago when downsizing became necessary. She loved her birds; especially the hummingbirds and the feeders were always full in Ferne’s yard. Most years there would be a race between her and her sisters Carol and Juanita to see who would record the first hummingbird arrival of the season in their yards. Ferne always won. She loved nature and took advantage of the beauty of it out of her dining window. Beyond that window, Ferne liked to watch TV and had a particular interest in old western movies. She was an avid card player, enjoyed sudoku puzzles and couldn’t bear to miss a weekly crossword. Her sons Jeff and Pat remember their mom as a “down to earth lady” with a strong-willed, stubborn side and they couldn’t forget to mention the smell of her homemade bread as it came out of the wood stove, nor how good it tasted. Ferne was very good at impressions and would often entertain her family and friends with impressions of folks she met on a daily basis. To their delight, she was so good at it that on most occasions she wouldn’t even have to say the first name of the person she was impersonating. Ferne had a fun loving personality and was loved very dearly by her family. She will be deeply missed. On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, Ferne Alice (Campbell) Doyle passed away at the Sussex Health Centre. Ferne is survived by her sons Jeff Walsh and Lisa Geiger of Edmonton,AB and Pat and Lori Walsh of Sussex Corner; her brother, Stephen and Beth Campbell of Sussex; her sister Juanita and Graham Kelly of Millbrook; her only grandson Aiden Walsh; her nieces Julie and Jeff Dunlop of Kingston, NB, Kim and Trevor MacNeil of Stewiacke, NS and Christine Campbell of Sussex; her nephews Greg and Heidi Kelly of Saint John, Scott and Jennifer Fillmore of Moncton and Rob Fillmore and Johanna Haley of Little River, NB; her brother-in-law Glen Fillmore of Riverview, NB and her very special feline companion Skipper.
