Obituary of David Leslie Roberts

Mr. David Leslie Roberts was born in Saint John on May 13, 1941. He was the son of the late Lyle and Eva Maude (Taysum) Roberts who then raised him in Darling’s Island. David met the love of his life, Myra Scott at a local square dance and in 1965 they were married. Their family would soon grow and along came their four wonderful sons: Brad, Jeff, Andrew and Matthew. He was a proud Canadian and served in the Canadian Armed Forces. He attended the Vocational School in Saint John to become a tradesman. David worked for many years in his field starting with Crane Industries in Saint John and then finishing his apprenticeship with Simms Brush Factory. He would later find his passion and work as an Industrial Mechanic and Maintenance Supervisor for the Irving Refinery in Saint John, retiring in the mid 90’s after almost 25 years. After his retirement, they moved to Markhamville and with the love and support of their family and friends the designs were made and their family home was built. David was a hardworking man not made for true retirement. It didn’t take long and he was hired on at the Potash Mine. First, working as a mechanic both underground and on the surface; then working loading water trucks. He was very active in not only his community but with the square dancing community and the restoration of the Londonderry Church. He also took great pride in his involvement in the development of the layout for the Dunster’s Warehouse. David will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Myra; their sons: Brad and his wife Lisa of Saint John, Jeff of Markhamville, Andrew of Saint John and Matthew and his wife Catharine of Sussex; his brother, Walter and Laura Duguay of Toronto and his sister, Marlene O’Brien and Cecil; his grandchildren: Lynzee Roberts, Laurel Roberts, Reid Roberts and Cassie Evans, Alexander Wilkins, Owen Roberts, Austin Roberts, Celeste Fox-Roberts, Gabriel Fox-Roberts and Ava Fox - Roberts; his great grandchildren: Jacob, Jonny, James and Robin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. David Leslie Roberts of Markhamville, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on November 16, 2016 at the age of 75. He is predeceased by his brother, Lyle Roberts and his sister, Elizabeth VanWart. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Monday from 12-2pm.
