Josephine McGaghey

Obituary of Josephine Alberta McGaghey

Josephine was born in Saint John, NB, a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Hargrove) Morrison. She was a lady in every sense of the word. Josephine was always very tastefully dressed, mannerly and polite. She had a way with words that her daughters referred to as “grammyisms” and they fondly remember their mother often saying, “A lady should always look her best”. She was a strong woman, very independent in her nature, with an attitude that was infectiously positive. Always viewing the “glass as half full” and encouraging her family to “look for the sunshine.” Josephine was a capable woman who wasn’t afraid to try anything once. She worked at the Saint John Regional Hospital for 17 years in the Central Supply Department and after her retirement and at the age of 65, Josephine decided that she needed to take on a second career. She began doing homecare in the Kings Co. area until well into her 70’s. Josephine also kept her drivers’ license until she was 94 years old. She loved to travel and her talent for carpentry was quite amazing. She enjoyed puttering in the flower garden and had a gift for knitting and crocheting. Another favorite pastime was painting and she dabbled in acrylics and experimented a bit with oils and proved to be a very fine artist. Josephine will be ever present in the hearts of her daughters: Joy Knox , Sharon Eldridge (Don Hatfield) and Judi McCullum and her husband Clayton; son Gerald McGaghey and his wife Sharon; step-son Donald McGaghey and his wife Glendine; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and many extended family members. Mrs. Josephine Mcgaghey, of Sussex, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2016, at the age of 99 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
