Obituary of Laura Pearl Walker
Laura Pearl Walker was born July 5, 1921 in Norton, a daughter of the late Howe and Ella MacKinnon and loving wife of the late Sydney Walker who passed away in 1999.
She was a faithful, long-time member of Calvary Pentecostal Church and her love for God was immeasurable. She was devoted to her faith and really enjoyed reading her bible. Being a talented musician with gifts in piano and guitar, Laura would often accompany her sons, David, Chris & Eric at church as they sang. Her family fondly recalls often hearing her humming or whistling and she loved to sing. She and her best friend Ida Brooks, used to be a dynamic singing duo and her son Chris could always get a giggle out of mom by referring to the two gals as "the original spice girls."
Laura had a great sense of humor and loved to have fun. The Walker house in Smith's Creek was a gathering place for family & friends. When the children were teenagers, there was always a houseful with friends stopping by. Everyone was always welcome, no matter the time of day or night. When she moved to her apartment in Sussex Corner, she was so happy to have the grandchildren around as often as possible. She always made sure she had special treats for each of them (cookies, ice cream, granola bars, etc.).
Sunday meals were always important to Laura, as she considered this special family time. One of her favorite Sunday meals was pancake and sausages. She was also a lovely cook and a fine baker. Laura loved to watch game shows and "the Judges", her favorite being Judge Judy. She also never missed watching the Gaither's Christian music program on Friday nights and after moving to Great Oaks, she continued this love of their music with her DVD's and CD's that she played often. Laura took great comfort in listening to this music in her final days.
Laura also loved a traveling adventure. She had many wonderful trips down to Nova Scotia to visit with her daughter Grace and never refused the opportunity to be a part of any "road trip." Laura's sense of adventure was strong and she was delightful to spend time with. She adored her family and was deeply loved.
