Obituary of Harold Layden

Mr. Harold Daniel Layden was born in Goshen at the homestead, on December 02, 1919; he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Loretta (Purtill) Layden. He grew up with five brothers; Gerald, James, Leo, Walter and Russel and six sisters; Kathleen, Eileen, Veron, Doreen, Lorraine and Lois. They went to the school in Goshen and living beside the school made it difficult to be absent. whole life. He cut pulp on the homestead in Goshen until he enlisted at the age of 23 in the Canadian Army. As a family, we are very proud of the service he gave to his country and are very fortunate that he was able to come home.He was awarded in respect of service during the war, the 1939-45 Star, France-Germany Star, Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Harold and Velma McCormac were married in 1947 in Saint John, with his brother Russel and his sister Lorraine by their sides. They went on to have eight children, 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren. Harold worked at the fisheries in Saint John as well as the chicken processing plant in Moncton. After this, he worked at the Copper Mines located on his property in Goshen. Eventually, Harold made his way to Eaton's from where he retired. Harold enjoyed singing the old Irish songs, playing guitar, step dancing and square dancing. He enjoyed his scratch tickets and going to the races in Saint John with Ted or to the dog races while he was in Boston visiting his sisters. Harold loved living in Goshen, loved being with his family, had a strong faith and love for his Church and will always be treasured in the hearts of his family. Harold will be remembered with great affection by his children; Linda Taylor and her husband Eric of Forest Glen, Eileen Stapleford and her husband Rick of Wards Creek, David Layden and Linda Sprague of Moncton, Teresa Layden of Harold worked very hard his Hampton, Richard Layden of Goshen, Karen Layden and Barry of Mount Pleasant and Daughter in law Marlene Layden of Petitcodiac; Grandchildren: Shelly Allain and her husband Marc, Kenda Mogford and her husband David, Jeremiah Layden and Daniel Layden, Tracey Cormier, Tanya Baskin and her husband Mark, Lindsay Layden, Ashley Layden and Simon, Angela Taylor and her husband Sheldon, Paula Taylor, Tera Kozak and her husband Rylan, Aaron Stapleford, Kirk Stapleford and Jillian, Jade Layden and Kaitlyn Layden, Alisha Mortensen and Shenae Mortensen; Great Grandchildren; Justin and Josh , Jesse, Ty,Madison, Mitchell, Justine, Jillian, Dylan, Ethan, Avrey, Ryder, Luke, Patrick, Connor, Trisha, Madison, Hunter and Shala; Sisters; Doreen McNaught of Albert and Lorraine Vincent of Moncton; Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Gerald, his daughter Lorraine, his daughter in law Ruth, his brothers; Walter, Leo, Gerald, James, Russel ,his sisters; Kathleen Quinn, Eileen Schleistein, Veronica MacDonald and Lois McCollum.
