My condolences for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. After the clouds, the sunshine; after the winter, the spring; after the shower, the rainbow; for life is a changeable thing. After the night, the morning, bidding all darkness cease, after life's cares and sorrows, the comfort and sweetness of peace.

I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Paul Renner. He was the Chief Electrician on HMCS Ojibwa when I became the Engineering Officer of that boat in Oct '85. I truly valued and appreciated his tremendous knowledge, experience and expertise. He helped me out immensely and I remain forever grateful for his loyal support and sage advice in that early period of my submarine career. My fondest memories of Paul pertain to our encounters when he was watchkeeping in the Motor Room and I was doing my periodic rounds. He was often shirtless, had his pants rolled up to his knees and sported a 'kamikaze' headband fashioned from some old rag. He took "pirate rig" to a new extreme! RIP Paul, you were a tremendous submariner and mentor.

Very saddened to hear of Paul's passing. Paul was a great boat mate to sail with on subs. I remember in 1979 when I was still an Able Seaman, he offered to drive me from Halifax to Moncton to pick up my new motorcycle. This was typical of the kind heart he had. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

Serena & family,
Gerri passed the sad news to me when I surfaced this morning. I couldn't believe my ears. It's been 50 years ago that Paul & I first met, and from that time onward we became very close friends in boats as well as through time and distance to remain that way, I saw somewhere that you're still curious about Paul's other life in submarines, and I can tell you some very amusing stories from the annals of the Parrot and the Billy-Goat on our runs ashore. A member of the notorious Dirty Dozen when we all managed to scrape up 5 pounds to stay in a freezing haunted house in Portsmouth one night as well as trying to charm a couple of Brit ladies with how to have a potato and weenie roast on an open fire, in the rain and fog on a dark Friday night in the Medway countryside while mooing cows provided entertainment during the Chatham days.
Along with Gerri's sentiments, I'll miss him big time;
Warm regards,Buster

I was saddened by the news of Paul's passing. He was a great friend and shipmate, we were part of the'"Dirty Dozen" that went to UK as the first communising crew of the pink panther Paul always had sage advice and was great to work with. All who knew him will miss his smile and sense of humor.

Dear Serena & family.
We are sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Paul. Our thoughts and prayers go out at this time to you.
Paul was one of my first mentors when I went submarines. His knowledge and experience was first hand and he helped shape my naval career as a submariner. We sailed togetheron Okanagan for five years from 1970 to 1975. We survived the Okanagan "Crunch" on 28 July 1973. We will forever be together as part of that crew. I then worked with Paul after our Naval Career in Paramax/Locheed Martin during the building of the frigates in Saint John and Quebec.
It was always a pleasure to sail and work with Paul. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person who was always there when you needed him. Rest in Peace Paul. "Take her deep. Full Ahead Group Up"

With shock and deep regret I received your email regarding Paul's passing. I sailed with Paul many times and enjoyed his sense of humour and comradeship for many years. Paul will be remembered and missed by all in the Submarine Community. On a personal level Paul took time and patience with qualifying submariners and has his hand on many who passed through in our generation..
With my sympathies,
