Obituary of Clifford Charles Hodgin

Mr. Clifford Charles Hodgin was born at home in Salt Springs, NB on September 29, 1945. He was the son of the late Charles Robert and Stella Irene (Mercer) Hodgin and the husband of the late D. Kathleen (Meehan) Hodgin who passed away in 2013. He graduated from Sussex High and on August 27, 1966, at the age of 20, he married his childhood sweetheart Kate, and a few years later moved to the country. This is where they would continue their love story and raise their beautiful family together, until Kate’s passing in 2013. Kate was truly Cliff’s inspiration and made his life complete working by his side. If Cliff could have lived his life over, he would not have changed a thing. There were two things that were the most important to Cliff; serving the public to the best of his ability. Working for New York Boiler for several years, 10 years as a Motor Vehicle Driving Examiner and over 36 years as a Driver’s Ed instructor and of course, family was most important. Whether it was the annual get-togethers for Christmas or the summer corn-boils; being surrounded by his family and spending time with his grandchildren brought him great joy. He was never happier than when he was at the camp with Kate and their friends, riding their ATV's on the trails. He had a passion for the little things whether it was his quality time with his four legged best friend, Bailey, his five years in the Reserve Army, his activities at the Legion, playing ball, hockey, golf or bowling, building cabinets or rebuilding vehicles OVER and OVER again. Cliff was a man who wanted to be remembered for his hard work, all the things he did while he had the time and how much he enjoyed every moment; but most of all for his family always being there for him no matter how hard he was on them. Cliff was the epitome of a people person and loved to love and tease and make others smile. His world was bigger and brighter when he could make someone’s day. His days were made more cheerful by his regular visits from Lloyd Hawthorne, Lloyd Meehan, Jim Taylor and Victor Mercer. He will be missed by every person whose lives he has touched. Cliff is survived by his daughter Wanda (Dale Lewis); his son, Troy (Jacinthe Leger-Hodgin); his brother, Louis Lisson; his grandchildren: Caitlyn (Lee Taylor), Cassidy, Brooklyn (Cory Lounsbury) and Madison (Benji Black); his great granddaughter, Skylar and his great grandson to be, Baby Black; his honorary granddaughter, Haylee Rae; his close friends: Victor Mercer, Lloyd Hawthorne and Wilma Smith and by his best friend and companion, Bailey; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clifford Charles Hodgin of Newline, passed away at his residence on March 4, 2017 at the age of 71. He is predeceased by beloved wife, Kate and by his sisters: Joyce Sandford and Lois Mitton. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-3 and 6-8pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20 will hold a tribute on Tuesday evening at 5:45. A service celebrating Cliff’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Scott Hillier officiating. If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the Sussex Extra Mural Program. Cliff’s family would like to thank his home care workers: Mel McMillan, Michelle Bond, Misty Secord and Jessica Peterson and to his respiratory therapist, Todd Munford for all of their kindness, care, compassion and support.
