Obituary of Harriett Elizabeth Perry

Harriett Perry was born in Berwick, NB on April 4, 1922; she was the second child of Roy and Gladys (Dymond) Ellison’s four children. She was blessed with a zest for life and independent spirit that were evident at a young age and would stay with her to the end. In her late teens she left home to train as an air plane factory worker in Edmundston and after working at air plane repair in Moncton she moved to Malton Ontario where she built Lancaster bombers at Victory Aircraft, before joining the army in the early 1940's. In the course of her army career Harriett moved between Montreal and Toronto, where she adapted quickly and happily to life in a big city. After WWII Harriett settled in Toronto and worked at a clerical job for E.S.& A. Robinson paper converters in Leaside for many years. During her time in Toronto, Harriett visited her family in New Brunswick frequently, and on one occasion met her future husband at a dance at the Officer’s Mess at Camp Sussex. Harriett moved back to New Brunswick and married Walter Perry on March 28, 1956, and began the next chapter of her life with him in Sussex. Their daughter Lynn was born in November 1957 and for the next 30 years they worked together at Perry’s Jewellers on Broad Street. Following their retirement they spent many happy winters in Clearwater Florida, enjoying the fine weather and the camaraderie of their fellow snowbirds. She was active in the Kings Chapter 21 Order of the Eastern Star and the Sussex United Baptist Church Women’s Missionary Society. Harriett will continue to live on in the hearts of her daughter Lynn Perry and her husband Howard Wright of Cambridge Narrows, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harriett Elizabeth Perry of Sussex passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on Saturday April 22, 2017 in her 96th year, she was predeceased by her husband Walter who passed away in 2000, her sister Pauline McEwen and by her brothers Roy and Robert Ellison. Arrangements are entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home 34 Sunnyside Dr. Sussex. where visitation will be held on Tuesday April 25th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Mrs. Perry’s life in the Wallace Community Chapel. There will be a time of fellowship with the family immediately following the service. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Kiwanis Nursing Home and of Sussex Dialysis Centre, who provided such wonderful care. If you are considering making a memorial donation the family has recommended the Kiwanis Nursing Home Building Fund or the Sussex Dialysis Centre.
